Bang, bang, bang, the sound of each bullet
penetrating the metal target slicing straight through like
a knife through paper. The soldier lowered his m-1
carbine after each shot checking to see if his shots even
made it to the target. The heat of the desert sun was
beating on his neck, the sweat dripped off his ears and
hair. “Michael get over here” a tall man dressed in clean
military uniform yelled. The man firing his m-1 carbine
looked back and saw his platoon leader calling his name,
he got out of his prone position and started his path to
his leader. “Are you ready Michael, are you mentally
and physically capable of doing this mission?.

“Michael looked at his platoon leader with his dark
brown eyes and just nodded his head. “Good son, now
go load up.” Michael saluted his leader and walked to
the direction of the loading dock. “200 rounds, 2 hand
grenades, a 1911 handgun, and your rifle…looks like
you’re ready to head out” Sam said, who was the
platoons medic. Each soldier strapped on their military
grade backpacks, strapped on their helmets and loaded
into their 2 ton military vehicles. The drivers fired up
the engines and off they went, into the streets of hell.

Michael was placed into a humvee with four other
soldiers, Sam the medic, Roger the overhead machine
gun turret operator, Nick the driver, and Vick who was
riding shotgun holding his m-1 closer to his body than
ever before. “What’s wrong, Vick?”, Sam asked with a
smirk on his face as two chin hook helicopters flew
overhead in the same direction the humvees were
going. This was Vicks first time riding into a firefight and
had only fired live rounds back at the bases gun range.
“Just getting myself mentally prepared” Vick said with a
light chuckle and a smile on his face which slowly faded
away as they passed citizens ran sacked stores on the
side of the street.

Michael just sat there looking forward not saying a word
the entire drive. “Nice weather we got he-“ Nick stopped
mid sentence as a bullet came flying in through the
front window puncturing his chest plate. “ENEMY FIRE”
Roger said unloading round after round of his 50.
Caliber machine gun on the terrorists. There were
terrorist insurgents overhead shooting their ak-47s onto
the streets where the line of American humvees were
driving. Michael was searching the rooftops with his
scope, finger on the trigger. Bang, the body dropped,
bang another one dead, Michael was picking off
terrorists one by one. The whole humvee was shaking
with a loud rattle because of the magnificent firepower
of the turret atop the humvee.
