This story begins on the last day of first grade. I was so excited that summer was finally here, and I was going to spend the whole weekend with my new best friend!

Kamma lived on a real farm, with horses, goats, pigs, chickens, and even a pony. There was so much to do at her house; we could ride bikes and quads, explore the pond, and play with the animals; the options were endless. 

After a full day of playing, we were HUNGRY, so her mom treated us to lunch. We giggled over burgers and fries, talking a mile a minute about what to do next. 

Should we ride bikes?

Go swimming?

Play with the animals?

We couldn't wait to get back and play some more!

We piled back in the car, too busy trading excited ideas about our weekend to even remember to click our seatbelts.

We got a little further down the road when Kamma's mom, Jill, looked in the mirror at us and realized we didn't have our seatbelts on. "Put your seatbelts on, girls," she reminded us.

Oops, sorry! We giggled, quickly pulling our seatbelts across and clicking them securely into place.

Seconds later, we saw the red convertible 

              F      L     Y     I      N     G

down the hill, then everything moved

in slow motion, and all we saw was the 

  red convertible coming right for us.

Now, we were the ones 

                          F   L    Y     I   N   G,

Suddenly tossed  forward and  backward,

and then everything went deafeningly

                                               L  O  U  D !  

The next thing I remember was the firefighter;

He seemed to have just appeared out of nowhere, like magic. He looked at me with the kindest eyes and said, "It was going to be okay," as he carefully pulled me out of the car. 

They rushed me straight into the emergency room. A blur of doctors and nurses worked quickly to take X-rays, run tests, and stitch me up. I had never been so scared in my life.
