To every child who has ever wondered if they belong. Remember that friendship has no limits. Sometimes we speak with words, sometimes with our hands, and sometimes with nothing more than a smile. 

Mia was a little girl who loved going to the park.
One sunny afternoon, she noticed a new girl sitting by herself on the bench. he had a bright red ball in his lap.
Mia smiled and waved.
"Hi!" Mia said.
The other girl smiled back. 

Mia walked over and pointed to the ball.
"Do you want to play?"
The girl nodded.
But when Mia started talking, she just looked at her and smiled.
Mia wondered why she didn't answer.

The girl pointed to her ears and then shook her head.
Mia's mom explained, "Her name is Maggie. She is deaf, which means she cannot hear the way you do."
Mia looked at Maggie.
"Oh," she said softly
Then she smiled.
" That's okay. We can still be friends."

Mia wanted to talk to Maggie, but she didn't know how. 
She tried pointing to the swings. 
Maggie nodded and ran toward them.
 Soon, they were swinging side by side. 
Mia laughed.
Maggie laughed too. They didn't need words to have fun.
