Barnaby was a bear of immense size and even greater appetite. He lived with a close-knit clan of bears in the Whispering Woods, where food was shared equally among everyone. One morning, Barnaby discovered a massive beehive dripping with golden, sweet honey. Instead of calling his clan, his greed took over. He squeezed behind a mossy boulder and ate every single drop by himself.

When he returned to camp sticky-pawed, his companions asked if he had found anything to eat. Barnaby wiped his snout and lied, claiming the forest was completely bare. This routine continued for weeks until the clan leader noticed Barnaby grew rounder while the rest of the bears grew thin. The leader quietly followed Barnaby and caught him red-handed, gorging on a fresh hive. Disgusted by his selfishness, the leader declared a harsh punishment. Barnaby was exiled from the Whispering Woods and forced to leave his home forever.

Cast out into the harsh, unfamiliar outer lands, Barnaby quickly learned how difficult life could be alone. He searched everywhere for honey, but his loud, clumsy tracking skills yielded nothing. Days turned into weeks, and his stomach rumbled with a deep, agonizing hunger.

As he sat groaning under an old oak tree, a small badger popped its head out of the ground. The badger offered to help the giant bear find food. Barnaby scoffed and mocked the tiny creature, laughing at the idea that such a small animal could succeed where a mighty bear had failed. Undeterred, the badger ignored the insults and confidently dug into the earth, tracking a scent only he could follow.
