Deep in a warm, green tropical forest lived a playful monkey named Milo.
Milo loved swinging from branches, exploring the forest, and making his friends laugh.
But Milo loved one thing more than anything else—FOOD!
“Yum, yum!” Milo said as his tummy rumbled.
Milo shared the forest with many other monkeys.
They climbed trees, played together, and searched for food.
Monkeys can live in many different places around the world. Many species live in warm forests with plenty of plants and other food.
Milo thought his forest was the best home ever!
One sunny morning, Milo woke up hungry.
“I know exactly what I want!” he shouted.
Milo hurried to his favorite banana trees.
Although monkeys can eat many different foods, Milo's favorite food was a big, yellow banana.
“Bananas, here I come!”
Milo stopped.
He blinked once.
He blinked twice.
“WHERE ARE THE BANANAS?”
There were only a few ripe bananas left!
The other monkeys hurried over.
“Oh, no!” cried one monkey. “What are we going to eat?”
The monkeys began to worry.
“We need bananas!”
“I want the last one!”
“No, I saw it first!”
Milo scratched his head.
“Wait!” he said. “We don't have to fight over bananas. There must be other food in the forest.”
Milo had a monkey-sized idea!
“I will explore the forest and find something else for us to eat!” Milo announced.
His friends cheered.
“Go, Milo, go!”
Milo grabbed his little adventure bag and swung away.
SWISH! SWOOSH!
His great food adventure had begun!
Milo traveled deeper into the forest.
He passed bright flowers, tall trees, buzzing insects, and colorful birds.
Milo looked high.
He looked low.
He even looked behind a giant leaf.
“Food? Are you hiding from me?” Milo joked.
Then he spotted something high above his head.
Milo looked up at a tall tree.
Round, hard fruits were growing near the top.
“Those aren't bananas,” Milo said.
They were coconuts!
Coconuts grow on coconut palm trees in warm tropical places.
Milo's eyes grew wide.
“Maybe my friends will like these!”
Suddenly...
WHOOSH!
A coconut fell from the tree.
THUMP!
It landed on the ground near Milo.
“WHOA!” Milo shouted as he jumped backward.
“That coconut almost gave me a new hairstyle!”
Milo laughed and carefully picked it up.
The outside was hard, but Milo knew something interesting was inside.
Coconuts have white flesh inside that can be eaten. Young coconuts can also contain coconut water.
“Wow!” Milo said. “This is definitely different from a banana!”
Milo couldn't wait to tell his friends what he had discovered.
