When Amelia was young, she saw an airplane.
She thought it was amazing!
She wanted to know how it worked.
Soon, Amelia wanted to fly.
She knew she had found something
she loved.


E is for Excited to Fly!
Amelia worked hard to pay for flying lessons.
In 1921, she learned how to fly.
She practiced again and again.
Then Amelia bought her own airplane!
She named it The Canary because it was yellow.
Amelia was ready to fly!


L is for Long Flight!
Amelia wanted to fly farther than ever before.
In 1932, she flew across the Atlantic Ocean.
She flew all by herself!
Amelia became the first woman to
fly solo across the Atlantic.
It was a very long flight!


I is for Incredible Records!
Amelia loved a challenge.
She set many flying records.
In 1935, she flew alone from Hawaii to California.
She was the first person to do it!
Amelia showed people that big dreams can come true.


A is for Atlantic!
The Atlantic Ocean was very big.
Amelia was not afraid to fly over it.
She crossed the Atlantic more than once.
Her flights made her famous.
People all over the world knew her name!


E is for Electra!
Amelia had a new airplane.
It was called the Electra.
Amelia wanted to use it for her biggest adventure yet.
She wanted to fly around the world!
Amelia and Fred Noonan
began planning their trip.


A is for Around the World!
Amelia and Fred began their trip in 1937.
They flew over land and water.
They traveled thousands of miles.
They were getting closer to the end of their journey. But they still had one very long flight ahead.


R is for Radio!
Amelia used a radio to talk to people on the ground.
On July 2, 1937, Amelia and Fred were flying over the Pacific Ocean.
They were trying to find a tiny island called Howland Island.
Amelia sent radio messages.
Then the messages stopped.
