At Maple Grove Elementary School, a cheerful school filled with colorful classrooms, a big playground, and a beautiful garden, there was a special girl named Lily.
Lily was kind, creative, and full of wonderful ideas. She loved drawing, painting, and learning about animals. Lily also had autism, which meant that sometimes loud noises and changes in her routine could feel overwhelming.
Even though Lily had many talents, she sometimes found it difficult to communicate her feelings when she felt upset.
Lily had two classmates named Ben and Ava.
Ben loved playing soccer and making people laugh. Ava enjoyed reading books and helping others.
At first, Ben did not understand why Lily sometimes needed quiet time by herself.
“Why doesn't Lily want to play with everyone?” Ben asked Ava one morning.
Ava shrugged. “Maybe we should ask her instead of guessing.”
That was a very good idea!

One Monday morning, their teacher, Mrs. Carter, announced some exciting news.
“Our class will be creating a giant garden mural for the school hallway!” she said. “Everyone will have a job, and we will work together.”
The students cheered. Lily's eyes sparkled. She loved drawing flowers, birds, and butterflies. “I want to help paint the garden,” Lily said softly.
Mrs. Carter smiled. “That sounds wonderful, Lily!” But then the classroom became loud as everyone started talking at once. Lily covered her ears and looked down at her desk.

As the class planned the mural, Ben and some other students began talking over one another.
“I want to paint the sun!”
“I want to paint the trees!”
“Let's make the biggest rainbow ever!”
The noise became too much for Lily.
She moved to a quiet corner and began to feel upset.
One student whispered, “Lily isn't helping us.”
Lily heard the comment and felt even worse. She wanted to help, but the noise made it difficult for her to concentrate.

Mrs. Carter noticed Lily was upset.
“It's okay to need a quiet break,” she said kindly.
She helped Lily find a peaceful place to relax.

Mrs. Carter spoke to the school art coordinator.
“Lily needs a quieter space and clear instructions so she can participate,” she explained.
She made sure Lily had the support she needed.
