One day there was a little tiny seed named Sunny. Sunny is a small white-and-gray seed. Sunny had big dreams, she wanted to grow into a big beautiful sunflower. She only needed one thing to start this journey. Somewhere to live.

On a warm spring day, a little girl named Marley planted Sunny in her garden. She dug a small hole in the soil and gently placed Sunny in it. She covered the hole back up with dirt. Sunny now had a warm, cozy place to start her journey. Marley then walked away smiling, hoping to see a sunflower soon.

Marley watered the soil around Sunny. The seed soaked up the water and became soft. Water was helping Sunny get ready to grow. No one could see the changes happening under the soil. Sunny was beginning the first part of her journey to become a sunflower.

After a few days, Sunny's seed coat began to split open. A tiny root pushed out and reached down into the soil. The root would help hold the plant in place and take in water and nutrients. Sunny was excited!

Marley noticed something new at the top of Sunny's stem. A small green bud was forming. The bud was tightly closed, and its yellow petals were not visible yet. The bud grew larger each day. Slowly, little yellow petals began to peek out. Sunny was getting ready to bloom. Bees and butterflies flew around the garden, visiting other flowers. Marley watched carefully because she did not want to miss the big moment. Sunny was almost ready to show the world its flower!

Sunny's flower began to open. Bright yellow petals spread around the flower's center. Sunny looked like a little sun growing in the garden. Sunny was now a tall sunflower with bright yellow petals and a large center. The flower stood proudly in the sunshine. Its green leaves helped it make food, and its roots continued collecting water and nutrients.
