Toady, waste is a
problem.
Waste? What's the
problem?

Well people in Australia all
create waste, quite a lot of it
actually.
And the problem is finding
something to do with all of it.
But isn't that
already figured
out? I mean what
do they do with
our waste now?

Well the rubbish that fills up your bin at home
will go into a land fill.
That's where they dig a big hole and pour all of
our rubbish into it.
Anyway, the problem is landfills are non-
renewable, and people don't want to live near
them.
Sorry.. uh question,
What does non-renewable mean?

No of course ask all you like,
Non-renewable means that it cannot be used again.
The rubbish in these land fills will stay there for
thousands of years, and serves no purpose. Also,
we keep having to build new land fills once one has been
filled. And eventually we will run out of land.
Okay, I guess that is a problem.
What about our other types of waste, are they a
problem too?
Glad you asked, and
actually yes they are.
Waste is created by
every person everyday,
in many different ways.
When factories create
and work on things,
often they let off fumes
that can pollute the air.
When people litter
pieces of rubbish, they
are also polluting the
environment.
Wow,
so how does it effect
me?

Your world is in trouble.
The land around you is shrinking, as we need
more space for land fills.
And the animals around you are dying. The
pollution from all of this waste harms animals
and their habitats.
In the future, you may not be able to enjoy the
things you can now, as our world is struggling,
and it itself in non-renewable.

What have people been doing? Why aren't they taking this
seriously?
Hey! Calm down, people have been trying to fix the problem.
There are things you can do to help the world from being
destroyed by our waste.
What? I will do anything I can!
Firstly use less, if you don't create as much waste then the
problem is already smaller.
Secondly, don't ever littler or pollute our
environment.
And lastly, try to recycle as much as possible.

The Government have also been working to
protect our earth from waste. They are working
with companies and big factories to recycle
or re-use waste.
So are they the only things people are doing
about this waste problem?
Well actually groups have formed to try and
minimise our pollution. Some groups have even
created events or dates to focus on cleaning up
out country.
But Australia doesn't seem to be dying
from our waste. Is it a problem that I
have to think about right now?
