One day, when Ed the sheep realizes that his farm is getting smaller and smaller, he decides
to find out why.
"Daddy, where is our land going?" he asks.
After a long pause his dad replied, "Follow me
my son."
2
Ed’s father took him away from the other sheep and gazed off into the distance.
“Do you see those large trucks and tractors over there?”
“Yes”, replied Ed, wanting to make his father proud.
“What are they doing-“ he stopped mid-sentence as four trees
were sliced to the ground.
“This is where it all begins my son…”

3
“What that truck is doing is called deforestation, which is a form of land management.”
“What’s land managem-“ Ed begins to ask.
“Land management occurs due to humans developing and producing
new resources due to increase in population and its demands.
They manage agriculture, forested areas and water management.”

4

“So what’s the big deal?” asked Ed.“Well first of all, deforestation clears over 10
million hectares of forest a year. Second of
all, humans create fires in the bush near our
farm to prevent wild bush fires, causing severe
loss of land productivity, meaning the soil
isn’t hostile.
5

Thirdly, greenhouse gases have risen significantly over the past 200 years due to increased emissions from human
facilities. They also cause a constant sea level rise
and a higher chance of global warming. Lastly,
it causes a loss of habitation for many
animals, as it is destructing
their natural habitat. Then the night came...
6
“Are all people that bad?” exclaimed Ed. “No,” his father replied, “There are good men.
They’re called farmers and they aren’t happy
with land management as it affects many
aspects of their life, such as livestock,
crops and feeling a sense of
community.

7
“What about the bad people?” asked Ed. “They’re the cold humans, as they have no problem with land
clearing because it creates more space for urban sprawl to
occur as this is where they build new buildings for more housing.

8
“Well who let’s them do all this?”“The government does.”
“Don’t they see how bad it is?”
“Well, it is easier for the government to
get rid of farms, as no one creates their
own clothes or produce any more. They
also meet human population demands,
as they can expand the city and put more
housing.

9
“But how does it affect the rainforest? Because I can see
them cutting down the trees
right now.”
