A Place for Everyone

A story about kindness, friendship, and making

sure nobody feels left out.

Lily was a happy second grader who loved school. She enjoyed reading, drawing, and playing outside. Her favorite part of every school day was recess.

Lily and her best friend Emma loved playing together. They usually played catch, climbed the playground, and laughed together. They always had fun at recess.

One Monday morning, Lily noticed a new student named Oliver. He had just moved to town and was starting at a completely new school.

Oliver felt nervous because he did not know anyone. He missed his old friends and wondered if he would ever make new ones.

Their teacher, Mrs. Wilson, introduced Oliver to everyone. She said, "Let's make Oliver feel welcome!" The students smiled and waved hello.

Soon, the recess bell rang. Lily and Emma hurried outside to play. Oliver slowly followed, wondering what he should do during recess.

Oliver looked around the playground. Everyone seemed busy playing with friends. He decided to sit quietly on a nearby bench by himself.

While playing catch, Lily noticed Oliver sitting alone. She remembered he was new and probably felt nervous. She wanted to help him feel welcome.

Lily ran to Emma and said, "Oliver is sitting alone. Should we invite him to play?" Emma smiled and happily agreed with Lily.

The girls walked over to Oliver. Lily smiled and asked, "Hi, Oliver! Would you like to play with us?" Oliver looked surprised.

"Really? You want me to play?" Oliver asked. "Of course!" Emma replied. "There is always room for one more friend!" Oliver smiled happily.
