"It seems you all wish to learn about El Dia de los muertos. A celebration commonly in Mexico. Why don't I take some time and teach you all about this important holiday!"

El Dia de los muertos is a celebration used to honor deceased family members and loved ones. It is a holiday of respect and to honor them in a sweet way with ofrendas and many celebrations.

El Dia de los muertos takes place in Mexico, and originates from around 3,000 years ago with indigenous mesoamerica roots, and usually includes pan de muerto and calavera. Pan de muerto is the 'bread of the dead' and is placed on altars to represent loved ones. On the other hand, calavera's are a skull or skeleton and is a central symbol during El Dia de los muertos to honor loved ones in many ways.

El Dia de los muertos is usually recognized with monarch butterflies, or Catrina, a iconic skeleton figure to show everyone mortality. That no matter rich or poor, everyone ends up a skeleton.

Ofrendas are usually decorated with cempasuchil, or marigolds, as it is believed to guide spirits along. Another thing ofrendas are usually decorated with is vela's, a guiding light that represents eternal love and remembrance while guiding spirits to their altar.

Something represented in El Dia de los muertos can also be papel picado, a folkart used to represent wind in ofrendas, and the shortness of a human life. Another one is angelitos, or little angel, and refers to deceased babies or children.

Now that we have learned about El dia de los muertos, I believe we should make our own ofrendas as a future class project. How do we feel about that?

Yay!!!
