"Can I go outside and play with my new
ball"? Asked Lola.
"You certainly can honey, just make sure
your back in time for dinner", replied Lola's
mom.

As she was bouncing
the ball around and
wagging her tail in
excitement, she noticed
another pup hiding in
the bush.
Lola kissed her mom
goodbye, and went outside
to play with her new ball.

Lola was a very friendly pup. She went
up to him and said "Hi! I'm Lola. Do you
want to play with me and my ball?"
The shy pup
smiled and
slowly came
out of the
bush. "Yes. I
used to have a
ball once", he
said. "I'm Milo
by the way".

Lola and Milo became very good
friends. Every afternoon for
many weeks, they would meet in
the same spot to play their
favorite game of catch... Until
one day, Milo was not there.

Lola went home,
feeling sad that Milo
was not there. She
decided to try again
the next day.

The next afternoon, Lola
went out to the same spot
where they met to play their
favorite game of catch. But
Milo was not there again.
Lola felt that something was
wrong. She decided to search
for her friend.

"Milo! Miiillooo! MIILLOOO!", she cried, but Milo was
nowhere to be found.
Lola was
about to give
up, until she
noticed a
small opening
under the
bridge
beside her
house. She
decided to
check one
last place.

"Down here?"
asked Lola, with
great confusion,
as she followed
Milo down the
opening.
"Lola?" asked Milo, as he was
surprised to see Lola coming down
the bridge. "I'm sorry I didn't come
and play. My mom is not feeling well
and I am taking care of her"

"You must be
Lola", said Milo's
mom.
Lola could not
believe what she
saw.

Lola felt very upset and
confused. Milo was her
friend, and she loved
him. She didn't think it
was fair that she had a
warm safe home and
Milo didn't. She decided
to take action.

Milo's mom explained that they had an accident where they
lost their family and their house, and don't have enough money
to buy a new one right now.
"It's safer here, the Pawlice usually give us pups without
homes a very hard time", said Milo's mom.
