Once apon a time in a far away land lived a Princess
named Kelly and her best friend named Sarah. Princess
Kelly and Sarah were very smart and spent most of their
time in the library. Princess Kelly's favorite subject was
Science. She remembered one day during school when
her teacher said that plants eat food just like humans.
Princess Kelly was very confused because she had never
seen a plant try and eat food before. Princess Kelly asked
Sarah if she ever saw a plant eat food and Sarah said
that she'd never seen it before. After school that day they
planned spying on the plants to see if they could catch
one in the middle of eating something.

Not knowing how long they would be out,
watching the plants, they packed snacks just in
case they got hungry. Once they got to the
correct spot they sat and waited to see if a
plant would move and eat something.
Hours passed and Princess Kelly and Sarah were
down to their last snack. "Maybe we should
give up" Princess Kelly said. "No!" Sarah said.
"I am sure they will move soon. Maybe they
just are not hungry our there is not any food
and they are starving. I will give them the
last piece of my pop tart and maybe then they
will move". "Okay" said Princess Kelly, "but
if they do not take the bait after ten minutes
than we are leaving!"

Sarah threw her last piece of pop tart perfectly in
front of the beautiful patch of plants. Time passed
and still the plants did not move. "Okay, let us get
our stuff and go, it is getting late anyway", Princess
Kelly said.

Just as Princess Kelly and Sara turned around
they heard a big snapping noise. They quickly
turned around in disbelief. They quickly saw
that the snack was still in front of the
flower and the flower had not moved. "Hi!"
said the talking raccoon. "My name is Tom!
Tom the Talking Raccoon! Why did you just try
and feed that plant a pop tart?" Princess Kelly
and and Sarah both looked at each other in
disbelief. "Hi! Talking raccoon. You would not
happen to know how plants eat their food
would you?". The raccoon laughed and looked at
both of the girls. "Wait you thought that you
could feed a plant a pop tart?" Tom said while
laughing."Flowers do a special thing called
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process of
when the plants take in water, carbon dioxide,
and sunlight through the leaves. That's what
they eat.""Wait" Sarah said while looking at
the plant. I just wasted my last piece of pop
tart!" "That's not the point,Princess Kelly
said, what do plants do with the Sunlight,
Carbon dioxide, and water?".

"Plants Convert those things into oxygen and sugar also
known as glucose. A plant could be eating right now
and we would never even know it because they do not
move for their food their food comes to them" said
Tom."We've got to go but tomorrow tell us all about
plants!" said Princess Kelly.
The Next day all Sarah and Kelly could think about was
plants and the talking raccoon they had so many
questions to ask the raccoon tonight when they went to
go talk to him. Once school got out they ran to the
same field they were at last night and called for Tom. At
first no one answered after a few minutes of searching
for Tom they found Tom sleeping in a log with pop tart
crumbs all over his mouth."Tell us all that you know
about plants!" Princess Kelly said

"Energy for photosynthesis comes from
sunlight" said Tom. " "What plant pigments
are involved in photosynthesis?" asked Sarah. "
Well, Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll b, and
Careotenoids" Tom said, while wiping off the
crumbs off of his mouth. "Interesting fact
Chlorophyll looks green to us because most of
the green wave lengths are reflected rather
than being absorbed. For this reason green is
not an effective color to power photosynthesis.
Instead violet is the best color because it has
the most power to power photosynthesis."
"Wow!" said the girls at the same time. "In
what organelle of the plant cell does this take
place?" Said Princess Kelly. " In the
Chloroplast and the two different stages of
photosynthesis are the light reactions and the
Calvin Cycle." "This all makes sense now!"
said the girls. "Where does each part take
place?" asked Sarah. " The light reaction takes
place with in the thyklaoids and the Calvin
cycle takes place in stroma."

said Tom. "What happens in the light and dark reactions and
which is which?" asked Princess Kelly. " Dark reactions make
use of these organic energy molecules (ATP and NADPH).
This reaction cycle is also called Calvin Benison Cycle and it
occurs in the stroma. The light-dependent reactions,
converts solar energy captured by chlorophyll into ATP and
high-energy electrons. During the process of photosynthesis
plants break apart the reactants of carbon dioxide and water
and recombine them to produce oxygen (O2) and a form of
sugar called glucose (C6H12O6)." " Thank you for all of this
information we really appreciate it!One last question why is
glucose important what is it?" asked Princes Kelly as she
grabbed her stuff getting ready to leave. "Glucose is sugar
and is very important because Glucose is important to
photosynthesis because it is the product
produced by photosynthesis. Plants then use this glucose for
energy in order to carry out photosynthesis again.
