I was so excited! It was my first year going to 

sleep away camp! Sorry, I should probably 

introduce myself. I'm Katie and i'm 10 years 

old. And this is my journal. Today my parents 

are going to drive me to sleep away camp! I'm 

a little bit sad because my best, best, best 

friend, Hailey can't go. But i'm still super duper 

excited! I have my bagged pack and i'm about 

to leave! See you in the car!

I'm in the car now! Guess what? We're only 5 

miles away! I'm so, so, so, so, excited! It feels 

like we've been in the car for days! Oh, I 

forgot to tell you the camp is called: Camp 

Ollina. I can't wait! They have so many 

activities! I'm so excited because they have 

HORSEBACK RIDING!!! I love to horseback 

ride. I'm also excited to meet my bunk mates 

and counselors! I hope i get a top bunk! And 

even though its my first time going I convinced 

my parents to let me stay for 8 weeks! I'm so 

excited. #happiestgirlintheworld

WE'RE HERE!!! I'm going into my cabin, Number 

G5, to meet my counselor. Here I go! "Hi, You 

must be, wait, Katie? I'm Paige." Says Paige. I 

say"Ya, I'm Katie. Nice to meet you." Yes!! I'm 

the first one there!   I get to choose which bunk I 

want! I choose the first top bunk I see! It even 

has its own window!!! I say goodbye to my mom 

and dad. I say I promise to write to you as much 

as possible! Then they're off. I start to set up my 

bed and drawers when a girl that looks about my 

age walks in. Paige says the same thing she said 

to me except she says the name Grace. I say 

"Hi, I'm Katie. What's your name?" She says

"Hi Katie, I'm Grace." She walks up to the 

bunk next to me and hops up. She sets up her 

bed when 2 more people walk in. I assume 

they're twins because they are identical! Grace 

and I ask them their names. They say "I'm 

Maya" "I'm Mackenzie". Grace and I say "Cool" 

Then they run up to the bunks we're on and go 

onto the bottoms. One more girl walks in 5 

minutes later. Like usual we ask her, her name. 

She says "Heidi". Again like usual we say 

"Cool". Heidi takes the bunk across from us.

I ask Grace what she likes to do. I say "I love 

to horseback ride. I live in the country so I 

might get my own horse for my 11 birthday." 

She says "I love gymnastics! I'm level 9." Then  

I ask Maya, Mackenzie, and Heidi what they 

like to do. Maya says "I love to draw. When i 

grow up i want to be an artist." Mackenzie says 

"I love to play piano. I'm getting pretty good." 

Heidi shyly says "I love to horseback ride. But 

i'm not that good." I say "Awesome Guys!"

"Bye Guys. I'm going to Horseback Riding" I 

said. "See you later" said Grace. "Bye" said 

Maya and Mackenzie. Heidi just left without 

saying anything. When I got to horseback riding 

they had to test me to see my level. I was the 

second highest level! I saw Heidi riding. SHE 

WAS AMAZING!!! When we all got back to the 

cabin for free time I asked everyone how there 

day was. Everyone said "Great" and 

"Awesome". Except Heidi. I asked Heidi "What's 

wrong?" She said "Nothing". I said "Ok".

It's the second to last day of camp now. Maya, 

Mackenzie, Grace, and I had become really, 

really, really close. Especially Grace and I. I 

couldn't wait to introduce them to Hailey. We 

decided to throw a suprise party for Heidi. 

Everyone, including our counselor Paige, hid. 

We had come to the cabin a period early to set 

up. When Heidi came in we all jumped up and 

said "SUPRISE". She jumped, but a huge smile 

appeared on her face right after. She thanked 

all of us and WE PARTIED!!

I wrote down everyone's Skype and emails. We 

hugged Goodbye. The time had come. It was time to 

go. I knew I would never forgot my first summer at 

SLEEP AWAY CAMP. It was amazing. I knew I would 

never forgot Grace, Maya, Mackenzie and especially 

Heidi. Heidi had changed my life. So had everyone 

else. I thanked Paige and then it was time to go. I 

couldn't wait to tell Mom, Dad, and Hailey. I was 

taking the bus home. Guess what? Heidi was on it to! 

I sat down with Heidi. I said "Hi, I guess I should 

have told you i live in the country too. "Where do 

you live?" "I live on 132 King Country Blvd". Said 

Heidi. "I live on 289 King Country Blvd!!" I say

When i got home i ran up to my parents and 

practically squeezed them to death! Hailey was 

there too! We did our secret handshake that 

always ends with a hug. I told her "I missed 

you so much! But i made some really good 

friends. I hope you don't mind." Not at all! Your 

my BFF why would I?! She said. We hugged 

again. I told Hailey "I wrote down everyone's 

Skype, let's Skype them. Brrrring Brrrring. "Hi 

Grace! This is Hailey, she's my friend from 

here!" "Hi." Said Grace. "Hi" Hailey said back. 

Then we had a long conversation. Then we 

Skyped Maya and Mackenzie, then Heidi.
