One day there lived a girl named Elinor.   She had a cat 

that was black.   His name was Shadow.   As they were 

going on a walk in the woods a bear showed up right in 

front of them.  

         "ROAR!!!"   he said.  

         "Rumble!" his stomach said.  

Elinor had a special something about her that no one 

could figure out.   It made the bear just walk away.  

However the bear was still hungry.   But there was luck.  

Elinor reached into her pocket and pulled out some raw 

meat in a plastic bag, whistled to the bear, and threw it 

to him.  

When Elinor looked down, she saw Shadow was 

gone!   Where did he go?   Who took him? The Cat 

Catcher?  

        "I gave him a magic collar that helps him run 

faster.   Maybe the Cat Catcher took off the collar.  

        I hope Shadow is OK, and I hope he isn't 

going to cook him.  

        Oh! I have to save him.   But how?

        OK.   Plan A. I will set an alarm for very early 

in the morning.   Then I will wake up early and save 

Shadow.   They freeze animals all night before they 

cook them.   It's very dreadful, I say!

         I'll need to bring him warm cloths, too"

She set the timer on and went to bed.  

          "RRRIIINNGGG! RRRIIINNGGG!" said the clock.

          "AHHH!!!" Elinor groaned and sat up.   "I must 

save Shadow."  

She put new food and water in the bowl and went off.  

Through the forest, over the mountains, under water 

and through a swamp.   She went into caves and across 

meadows until finally, she got there.   There was a 

special something about Elinor and she got Shadow and 

dressed him and took him home.  

It took a while for them to get home and for Shadow to 

warm up.   Thankfully the collar was still on him and 

helped him not to freeze to death.

     Elinor's house had a curved roof like a barn.   It had a 

creaky staircase into a loft that was a large room like a 

ball room.   There was a pretty bedroom and she had lots 

of pretty dresses in her closet.   When it rained it 

sounded like a lullaby on the roof.   She also had an art 

room with hundreds of pictures on the walls.  

    Downstairs there was a bathroom and a kitchen, a 

dining room, a living room and a tv room. She had a 

special fashion room with hundreds of dressed up dolls. 

There was a toy room and a pool room with a second 

bathroom.   There was a special ballet room and a 

laundry room and she had a library and school room.  

    It was a mansion with a huge backyard.   The 

backyard had a huge fort and tree house.   

It took a while for Shadow to warm up and it took 

a while to get home.   The magic collar was still on 

him.   It was strange.   Elinor's house was curved 

like a barn.   It had creaky stairs up into a loft with 

a stove where she did her cooking.   The loft was 

large and looked like a ballroom.   There was a 

pretty bedroom and very pretty dresses in the 

closet.   When the rain fell at night it sounded like a 

lullaby on the roof.   She had an art room with 

hundreds of pictures on the walls.   Downstairs 

there was a bathroom and a second kitchen, a 

dining room, a living room, and a TV room, a 

fashion room with hundreds of dressed up dolls.  

Elinor and Shadow were at the beach when suddenly an 

octopus jumped out of the water.   Elinor ran up to it in 

amazement. 

        "What are you doing up here?"   she asked him.

        " I am a lost and scared octopus," he said, shaking 

as if Elinor was going to get him.   But there was 

something about her that no one could figure out, and 

so the Octopus stopped shivering.  

        Shadow meowed as if he was talking to the 

octopus.   The Octopus smiled.  

        He said, "What is your name?"   "Meow, Meow" 

answered Shadow.   "What is yours?" asked Elinor.

        "My name is Dave. What's yours?" replied the 

octopus.
