"I saw courage both in the Vietnam War and in
the struggle to stop it. I learned that patriotism
includes protest, not just military service." John
Kerry
This quote is stating that Vietnam will be a
constant struggle. John Kerry is stating that not
only are the soldiers struggling, but the people
back home protesting are too. This quote is
against the war because of how the war is
negatively impacting America.

"No event in American history is more
misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was
misreported then, and it is misremembered
now." Richard Nixon
Richard Nixon is stating that Vietnam was a
very misunderstood war. He believes that
Vietnam was not covered thoroughly by the
media and people misinterpreted it. This quote
defends the Vietnam war, and tries to tell
people it wasn't as bad as everyone says it
was.

"One of the lessons learned during the Vietnam
War was that the depiction of wounded
soldiers, of coffins stacked higher than their
living guards, had a negative effect on the
viewing public. The military in Iraq specifically
banned the photographing of wounded soldiers
and coffins, thus sanitizing this terrible and
bloody conflict." Walter Dean Myers

This quote is stating that many lives where lost
during the war. This quote is against the war
and tries to inform people of the horror that our
soldiers had to endure. Walter Myers states
that photography was banned because they
didn't want people to see the horrific images of
war and wanted to prevent protests.

"Our purpose in Vietnam is to prevent the
success of aggression. It is not conquest, it is
not empire, it is not foreign bases, it is not
domination. It is, simply put, just to prevent
the forceful conquest of South Vietnam by
North Vietnam." Lyndon B. Johnson

The American Dream has run out of gas. The
car has stopped. It no longer supplies the world
with its images, its dreams, its fantasies. No
more. It's over. It supplies the world with its
nightmares now: the Kennedy assassination,
Watergate, Vietnam. J. G. Ballard
