It was Sarah's birthday and she was having a big party! There were cake
and balloons, family and friends, and a lot of presents! After they ate cake
her sister Renee shouted, "Let's open presents!"

Sarah started unwrapping her presents with great joy! As she was nearing
the bottom of the pile, she noticed something different about one present. It
was oddly shaped and wrapped in shiny gold wrapping paper with an
emerald green ribbon tied around it.

Sarah picked up the present and asked, "Who is this from? There is no tag or
card to go with it!"
But no one had any idea who the present was from or where it had come
from!

Sarah quickly unwrapped the oddly shaped gift and pulled out a metallic
object with a handle on each side.
She was unsure what to do with the object when her friend Brittany piped
up, "It looks like there is a hand print on each handle!" And her friend
Keziah joined in, "Look there is a switch on the side!"

So Sarah flicked the switch and placed one of her hands in one side and her
other hand on the other side but nothing happened. Then she asked her
friend Caitlin to place her hand in one of the handles.
As soon as both their hands were on the handles the machine started
whirring and smoke billowed from the top.

All of a sudden Caitlin and Sarah were surrounded by a memory of Jentre's
birthday party where everyone had dressed up, taken pictures, and had
dinner. They had even pretended to drink wine! But it was really sparkling
grape juice.

After a few seconds the memory vanished and Caitlin and Sarah were left
standing in awe over what had just occurred. "Did you see that?!" Sarah
shouted. "We were just in a memory!"
"And that is my favorite memory of us!" Caitlin added.
Everyone else in the room look amazed. They had never experienced
something like this before!

Sarah's mom wanted to try it
next. So she and Sarah both
grabbed
the machine
handles.
It sprang to life, billowing smoke, and a
memory from a long time ago when Sarah
was very little.
Sarah's mom had been working in the
garden and Sarah yelled out to her, "Dad
is calling!" (He had been calling to check in
from work.) Her mom told Sarah that she
would be right in, and Sarah replied,
"Don't worry, I am comforting him!"

Brittany grabbed the machine
next and it took them to the
first warm day after winter
had ended. Brittany and Sarah
had taken off their shoes and
ran through melted snow to
celebrate the first days of
spring!
Suddenly as Sarah and
Brittany were thinking about
that memory, POOF! The
machine let out a cloud of
smoke and stopped
completely!

Not one sound or memory emerged from the machine. They pulled, poked,
and prodded it, but nothing happened.

While they were trying to figure the machine out, Keziah
started talking about memories she had with Sarah like
swimming as children, doing math homework at school on
the balcony, and sleeping in a cardboard box for fun!

This reminded Alissa of the time she and Sarah laid in the backyard,
looked at stars, and sang Disney songs loudly. Even though Sarah's
neighbors were having a party in their own yard and could probably
hear them.
