An Assassin Bug is a very scary bug. It uses its strong beak to repeatedly
and violently stab its prey. In its beak is a lethal venom that paralyzes its
prey which helps in the process of death. Hence, how it got its name,
Assassin. The bite of this bug can be very painful to a human, but it has not
been known to be deadly.

Bedbugs tend to live off of human and animal blood. They can
not fly, but they get around very quickly. They are known for
living in old or used furniture and mattresses, which is how
they got their names. Bed Bugs live in very tine spaces, and
once they bite, they leave very nasty rashes.

Cicadas are small insects that
like to live in tropical
environments like Florida.
They are large in size and male
cicadas have a distinct sound
which sounds like they are
singing. They do not sting or
bite.

Dobsonfly
Dd
The adult dobsonfly is about two inches long
and only lives for about a week once it reaches
adulthood. Only female dobsonflies have the
ability to bite. They usually live near streams
and rivers, and are nocturnal insects.
Dobsonflies are often used as fish bait.

Emerald Ash Borer
This insect is a metallic green jewel beetle, and is also considered
to be exotic. They feed off of ash trees and have a lifespan of
about two years. Females lay their eggs in the cracks of tree
bark, and when the eggs hatch the larvae chew there way
through the bark to get out.

False Japanese Beetle
FeThese insects are named false because they
are often confused for the original Japanese
Beetle. They like to feed in gardens and
often attack vegetables such as peas, corn
and cucumbers. The adult False Japanese
Beetle usually is around for about two weeks
between June and July.

Gall Midges

These insects are very fragile with hairy wings and long
antennae. Adult Gall Midges can also be mistaken for
mosquitoes because they look alike. They are small plant
eating flies that cause swelling in plant tissue called
galls.

Hummingbird Moth
Hh
Hummingbird Moths are
named after the
Hummingbird because they
are very much alike. They
fly and move like Humming
Birds, and can remain
suspended in the air. They
hum just like them too.
They are colorful and have
long tongues, and the like
to feed off the nectar of
different flowers.

Iris Weevil
IiThese are plant eaters that
usually feed on blue iris flowers.
They fly quickly and will easily
make its way through a garden
and kill your plants.

Japanese Beetle

JjThese bugs originated from
Japan, and are known to be
clumsy flies that often times fly
into walls and fall several
centimeters before they can
regain balance. They like to
eat plants, mainly the leaf and
sometimes the fruit of a plan if
it is present.

Silk Moth Caterpillars
KkSilk Moth Caterpillars are
the largest of its species.
They are active caterpillars
from Fall to Summer, but
are wrapped up their
cocoons during the winter.
They emerge during the
spring, and don't usually
feed before they pass away
two weeks later.

Leaf Beetle
LlLeaf Beetles come in over 35,000
different species such as the ones
illustrated, the Dogbane and the Frog-
legged Leaf Beetles. They feed of of
plants and are common in Minnesota.
They come in many different body shapes
from flattened to round. A special
characteristic of a leaf beetle is that some
species can hide it's antennae and legs
under it's wing while it's sitting on a leaf.

Masked Hunter
The Masked Hunter is a relative of the Assassin Bug. Masked
Hunters will deliver a bite comparable to a bee's sting when
handled or trapped. The bite can cause swelling that lasts for
about a week. They prefer dry habitats and are usually only
found in small numbers when they infest houses

Nightcrawlers
NnThe reason these worms are called nightcrawlers is
because you would typically find them on the surface of
your garden at night. A nightcrawler is also an
earthworm that is widely used as fish bait.
