A a
Atom!Atoms are EVERYWHERE! They are
the source of nuclear energy.

B b
Benjamin Franklin was flying a kite
on a stormy day and "BAM!" he
discovered something!
He discovered that electricity is
passed from one thing to another
and is never destroyed.

C c
Conductor
Conductors are made of
materials that electricity
can flow through easily.
Some examples of conductors are:
copper, aluminum, silver, and gold

D d
Electricity travels
in one
direction only!

E e
Electricity is used everyday.
Electricity is the flow of electrical
power or charge. We use electricity when
we plug a power cord into an outlet. Where can you find an
outlet?

F f
Fuse is a safety device with metal wire, which melts when
electrical currents get too strong, cutting the flow.

G g
Have you ever been on the street
and seen cables hanging up above?
Those are electrical grids. An
electrical grid is a system of high
tension cables in which electrical
power is distributed.

H h
Did you know water can create
electricity? Hydroeclectric power is
created by the force of falling
water. Hydroelectric power creates
electricity.

I i
Insulators are the
opposite of conductors.
They are objects or
materials that do not let
electricity pass.
Some examples of
insulators are: rubber,
plastic, and glass.

Those are big numbers, right?
That is an example of how joules
are calculated. What are Joules?
Joules is a metric unit used to
measure work and energy.

K k
There are so many things around us that use
electricity. The amount of electricity used is
measured in kilowatts. Think about the kitchen in
your home. What objects in your kitchen are
powered by electricity?

L l
Have you ever seen a bright flash in
the sky during a storm? This is called
lighting. Lighting is electricity
produced by a thunderstorm.

M m
When holding two magnets next to each other,
you can feel the two magnets pulling towards
each other. This magnetic force is called a
magnetic field.

N n
Non- renewable energy sources are
sources that cannot be made again in
a short period of time. These sources
can provide us with electricity.

O o
Ohm is the unit for measuring resistance to an
electric current. So if you want to know how
much resistance to electric current an object in
your house has, you would measure in Ohm.

P p
So many objects around you need a power cord in order to get electricity. A power cord
is a cable that temporarily connects
an appliance to the electricity supply by
plugging it into an outlet.
Power Cord
Q q
So much electricity is used around
the world every day. Every object
that uses electricity needs an
amount of electric charge. The
amount of electric charge that is
given off is called quantity of
electricity.
