No Bullies Allowed

We heard there is a new student comingto our school, White Rock Elementary.
The rumor has it that the student is from
the Califon School.

Hey, Califon buds, we're getting a new student
tomorrow from the
White Rock School.

Is it a boy or a girl???The word is we're getting a bully.

Oh no, I can't deal with that!I'm always the one to get picked on.
It's not fair, I thought I was safe when
our bully moved, and NOW !!!

So the next day the new student arrives
at Califon.............
Hey guys, the new student looks ok!
Ya sure,but what's
with the hoodie?

What do you think guys, should we say something?

I don't know, looks a little creepy to me!

Little did they knowthis new kid looked
sweet on the outside,
but had a heart of ice!

That day students were getting tripped in the
hall, the lunchroom was ridiculous. Every time
the teacher wasn't looking we were being
beamed with spit balls. "What a horrible,
terrible, very bad day".....
At both schools.

This went on for weeks at both schools. At
the White Rock School we tried conflict
resolution. We applied our six pillar
strategies. Nothing helped. The bullies
were still as mean and angry as ever. We
were all scared.

Then, as if by a miracle, we found out
from a kid whose mom helps in the PTA
that the bullies were from the same
family. They were siblings, twins.......
Why the different schools?

It turns out that the parents were split up -
divorced. One parent lives in Califon and the
other lives in Oak Ridge. The twins started
fighting and became bullies, they were acting
out their negative feelings about the divorce.
So this is how we problem solved to help
them....

At the Califon School we remembered learning
about Open Circle. That is when we learned
not to fight fire with fire. Remember when we
used Flat Frank and each time we crinkled him
up, he got more and more damaged? This is
kind of what happens to kids in school when
they get bullied with hurtful words and actions.

The kids being bullied tried to fight back,
but it just gets all messed up. Kids who
bully don't realize how painful it is being
bullied. The person being bullied feels
helpless.
When we tried to fix Flat Frank by
smoothing him out, we could never make
him perfect again.

Maybe we could try to uncrinkle the new kid
with compliments and acts of kindness.
We'll work together and use our
communication skills to let the new kid feel
welcomed.
We'll be friends with the new kid. An
invitation to the school dance might be a
start. We'll invite the twin too! Just maybe
we can make a difference!

Now, that's how we've solved that problem.
We learned that we can make a difference.
But, were the bullies boys
or girls??????????
