September 7, 1350 My name is Ericka DeVito. I live in Lyon,
France and I'm 10 years old and I have 5
other siblings. The oldest, is my brother Henry
(15), Leo (13), Gabrielle (12), Irene (12),
me, then Vito (6). I'm closest to Leo and
Gabrielle.

That is my dad.September 17, 1350
My dad is a doctor who has been trying
to cure people who have this disease
that has been going around called the
Plague. I put a picture of him on the
side. He has been very ill lately. I hope
he is okay. Dad is the one who gets the
money for the family, although Henry is
gonna ask to work at the farm down the
road.
October 2, 1350Mom got a letter today from Dad. He said that
he is very sick, and won't be coming home
anytime soon. We are in need for money now.
Mr. Hill said that Henry could work for him a
couple days ago, but that's not enough money
for 5 kids and Mom.
October 7, 1350 Dad passed away today. Everyone is very
upset. I caught him crying in his room a couple
days before he left, but I didn't know it was this
bad. All I know is that he is in a better place
now. Rest in peace Dad. Love you!
October 20, 1350Today is Mom's birthday. She got some money
from the boys. All my brothers have jobs now.
We are doing pretty well for the money issue,
but aunt Marie got sick and died a couple days
ago.

The boys rarely ever come home. Either
they are working or by their friend's
house. I miss seeing them every day.

Mrs. Genovese (Vito's friend's mom) sent Vito
home because he had a lump on his neck and
under his armpits. He had been coughing all
day too. Hopefully he doesn't get anybody else
sick.

Vito has been getting worse. We are afraid he
had caught the plague also. Not only him, but
he gave it to Mom, Leo, Irene, and Gabrielle
also. I don't know whether I should risk my life
helping them, or have my loved ones die on
me. If they die, I have no place to live.
December 13, 1350Vito is dead. I've made my decision, that I'm
going to try to help. Mom and Irene have been
getting black spots all over, just like what
happened to Vito. Henry hasn't been home in
weeks, although he has been sliding portions
of his payment under the door. He is the only
one in the family with a job now. Everyone's
too ill.
