Today, just like any other day, starts in the 

kitchen. Nancha and I are doing the only thing 

Mama Elena taught us, cleaning, sewing, and 

cooking.

Today is a little different though. A man named 

Pedro Muzquiz wants to meet and marry me. 

Mama tells him no because the family tradition 

is that the youngest must not marry. Instead, 

she offers him to marry my sister Rosaura and 

he accepts.

I am forced to prepare the food for the wedding 

as punishment for trying to avoid the wedding. 

While preparing the food, I thought in my head 

why mama has to be so cruel. Thinking about it 

made me cry all over the cake so Nancha told 

me to get some rest, and I did.

After the wedding everyone gets sick 

but me because I had only eaten one 

piece of cake. Mama is certain that I 

have poisoned it because of my 

jealousy of Pedro and Rosaura.

I look for Nancha to defend myself but 

she is found dead holding a picture of 

her lost love.

Today I'm making a meal using the rose pedal 

that Pedro had given to me. I spend even more 

time in the kitchen alone now that Nancha isn't 

here to give me company.

The meal I prepared makes everyone happy, 

especially Pedro. Gertrudis gets a sense of 

passion then Pedro. Pedro and I were 

compelled to each other for the rest of the 

dinner and stared. 

I am so glad to see that I have a nephew now, 

his name is Roberto and we are so close.

I remember him being born and Nancha's spirit 

guiding me through the process.

Unfortunately Mama Elena finds out about how 

close I am with Roberto and Pedro and she 

sends them to go live in San Antonio. Once 

again leaving me in distress.

Now I have nothing, including friends, only 

some pigeons that I tend to. While is was with 

my pigeons federal troops came to search the 

property. 

They find nothing but my pigeons that they 

take and I'm really left with nothing and feeling 

more depressed. 

News has came in that baby Roberto has died. 

It's all Mama's fault so I go to confront her with 

anger. 

That backfires and I go into a catatonic state.

Mama then orders me to be sent to an asylum 

and that's when I meet Dr. Brown.

I'm making a slow recovery thanks to Dr. 

Brown. He even explains to me how everyone 

has a fire burning in us and that we should 

protect our flame.

Chencha comes to visit 

me and brings along 

ox-tail soup. With one 

spoonful I remember a 

time in the kitchen with 

Nancha.

I asked Chencha to 

send a message on her 

way back that I'm not 

returning home
