The day was finally here. The day of the magic
show that Bryan and Angela were so excited to
see. They heard that the magician was going to be
performing the following acts:
Photosynthesis,Glycolysis, the Kreb's Cycle, and the
Electron Transport Chain.











"This is not going to be your typical magical show,"
said the magician to the audience, "you are going
to have to be involved and move to different rooms
within this cell." The first one that the audience
had to move to was the Chloroplast. Here, Bryan
and Angela witnessed the magician turn carbon
dioxide and water into glucose (AKA sugar) and
oxygen. The magician called this act
Photosynthesis.




ATP!

The next room that the audience moved to was the
Cytoplasm. Here,the magician was to perform Glycolysis
which is where he breaks down the glucose from earlier into
two pyruvic acids. He picked Bryan and Angela to provide him
with energy. "Don't worry," he said, "there will be
opportunities to provide oxygen for the next act but not this
one because it is anaerobic." In order to provide the magician
with energy that he needed to start the act, Bryan and
Angela had to chant "ATP". The magician assured them that
he would get that energy back to them, and sure enough he
did, creating four ATP molecules, in which he gave Bryan and
Angela each one. Then he removed four electrons and passed
them to NAD+ which his assistant then sets them onto NADH
which holds them until they can be transferred to the next
room. The pyruvic acid made is used later on in the different
acts.





Before the audience left to the next room, the
magician showed them what would happen if he did
not have volunteers to provide oxygen. This was a
bonus act called Fermentation, in which energy would
be released from food molecules. The first type he
showed the audience was alcoholic fermentation in
which the pyruvic acid and NADH, produced earlier, is
turned into Alcohol, carbon dioxide, and NAD+. The
second type is lactic acid fermentation in which pyrvic
acid and NADH is turned into lactic acid and NAD+.
