One stormy evening a 14 year old girl, named Stephanie was in the
kitchen begging her mother to let her stay home from school the next
day. Stephanie only has one friend, named Alicia. Everyone at school
makes fun of Stephanie because she's different. But, of course her
mother makes her attend school and says to her, "Just ignore them
Steph, it's what's on the inside that counts." Stephanie thought that
was bologna.

Stephanie stood in her room and just thought to herself.
"Why are the other kids so mean? Why don't their parents
tell them it's all about what's on the inside?" As Stephanie
was thinking she heard the phone ring. "Oh, who could that
be?"

Stephanie answered the phone. it was her best friend Alicia.
Alicia asked, "Hey Steph, are you coming trick or treating with
me tomorrow?" Stephanie replied, "Of course! Halloween is my
favorite. I've had my costume picked out since July!"
Alicia said, "Yay! I can't wait. I'll see you at school tomorrow."
"Oh yeah...school," Alicia thought.

Alicia then went to bed and a huge storm blew in.
Somehow the entire town slept right through it.
Something about this storm was different. It almost
seemed...magical.

Then the morning came and the storm blew
away. All was peaceful in the city.

Alicia woke up. "It's finally Halloween!" she yelled.
She quickly put on her witch costume to wear to
school for the party and went to meet Alicia so
they could walk to school together.

Alicia of course was a beautiful princess. So the witch
and princess walked to school.

School

Stephanie really didn't want to go to school.
She was afraid of what all the other kids
would say to her.

To Stephanie's surprise, none of her classmates made
any mean comments. They were strangely nice to her.
Stephanie thought maybe it was because it was her
birthday, but they've never been nice to her on her
other birthdays. "Maybe it's just a Halloween prank,"
she thought

Stephanie couldn't wait to get home and tell
her mom how weird today was. Maybe her
mom knew why everyone was suddenly so
nice.

When Stephanie got home she found her mom in the kitchen
wearing a witch hat. "Mom everyone at school was really nice to
me today. Why do you think they were like that?" Stephanie
asked. "Well Steph now that you're 15 there's something I need
to tell you." her mom said.
