It was a bright and sunny morning, when Ally Dillon
went into labor. She had a beautiful girl, but that girl
was born with an illness. The illness was called Cholera.
She suffered with Cholera, and then one day it stopped.
One day, when the little girl was all better she
went on a picnic, with her parents. Ally's husband Jack
set out the blanket, cooked the hamburgers, and even
poured the drinks. Ally was playing with her 3 year old
baby girl, then it all broke down. She started coughing
and she went green and purple in the face. They rushed
her to the hospital. The next day, she became blind and
couldn't feel, or taste. She could only hear and smell.

"It's OK. It's OK." Said Ally Dillon under her breath. She
cried all night, she woke up and picked up her little baby
out of her crib. She set the little baby next to her and
hugged her. "I wish you were OK." Said Ally. Then the
little baby, even though she couldn't touch ( or feel ) she
hugged her Mommy. "Mommy." The little baby said. She
wasn't dumb! ( By dumb she meant she couldn't talk )
"Mommy....Mommy. I...Love....You." Said the little baby.

The next day, Jake Dillon the little babies Dad, had died.
"Mommy..." Said the little baby reaching around even
though she couldn't touch. Her Mom wore a perfume, so
she followed the scent. "It's OK. I'm right here." Said her
Mom.
( 4 Years Later )
"Mom! C'mon, it's my first day of second grade!" Said
the 7 year old. "Coming baby." Said Ally Dillon. "Mom,
I'm no baby. I'm 7. And I don't need you to call me
baby." Said the little girl. " Besides, I don't have a name.
What do I tell the people at school?"She added.

"Call yourself Little Gem." Ally Dillon said. "OK! Let's go!"
Said Little Gem.
________
"Bye!" Little Gem called. Little Gem kissed her mother
good-bye and ran up the steps to her school, of course
she tripped the way up because she was blind. She made
it just as the bell rang. Her teacher Mrs. Albee helped her
with her stuff. Little Gem thanked her, and said, "My
name's Little Gem. I'd like to be your friend." Mrs. Albee
put her hand to her heart and said, "Oh you are so
wonderful Little Gem. I would love to be your friend."

Little Gem had a rough day, though. Little Gem was
teased by Lauren Luster. And her group of friends, the
Lustets. "Hey. You blind girl go back to your Mommy since
you can't see. And I heard you're deaf so I know you
can't hear me. Ha ha" Said Lauren. "No, I can hear you.
You just said to go back to my Mommy because -" Little
Gem realized they were bullying her. Little Gem ran up to
the teacher and barely said through tears, "They--they-."
In social studies the next period, Little Gem met a brilliant
boy. His name was Jordan "Hey, can I sit here?" Jordan
asked. "Yeah sure. My name's Little Gem. What's yours?"
Little Gem asked. "Nice name, I'm Jordan.
