Once upon a time in a town called Woodhurst lived two caterpillars. One caterpillar was named Alice and she was big, green, and very friendly. The other caterpillar was Jane and she was small, brown, and very curious. Alice and Jane were sisters. Jane was the little sister and she didn't know a lot about the five senses, so she went to ask Alice. Alice said, "Sure I'll explain the five senses to you! Let's begin with the brain!"
3

The Brain
And Emotions :

4
Alice took Jane to the forest where they met a little girl named Debby. Debby was very silly. Alice told Jane that Debby's brain is what creates all the senses. Jane asked, "So the brain is what connects your senses to your body?" Alice replied, "Correct! The brain also holds all of your emotions!" Jane looked confused, "What are emotions?" she said. Debby blurted out, "Your emotions are your inner feelings. It's what determines if your happy, mad, or sad." Alice asked Jane, "Have you ever felt happy Jane?" Jane said, "I'm always happy!" Debby blurted out again, "Then you've experienced emotion!" Alice looked at Jane and said, "Let's move on."

Tongue and
Sense of Taste :

6
Debby took Alice and Jane back to her house so they could discuss the first sense. Alice said, "Jane the first sense is taste. This is where your tongue uses a technique called gustatory perception to taste different things."
Jane asked, "What's gustatory perception?"
Alice said, "Gustatory Perception is the sensation that occurs when something meets the taste buds. Take a bite of that cake!" Jane took a giant bite out of the cake and smiled. "It was deeeeeelicious," Jane said. Alice giggled and said, "That means your taste buds put out a pleasing sensation, let's move on to another sense!"

Embryos
and
Genders :

8
Alice and Jane decided to leave Debby behind. They traveled into the ocean where they came across Sally, a friendly, pregnant shark. Jane asked Sally if her baby was a boy or girl. Sally said, "Oh I don't know yet! It's still an embryo, we can't figure out the gender yet." Jane was confused. She asked Alice, "What's an embryo and what's a gender?" Alice quickly answered, "An embryo is the stage before a baby becomes a baby. It doesn't have a human shape yet. A gender is what decides if your biologically a male or female. Since the baby isn't a baby yet, we don't know the gender." Jane nodded and they wished the shark good luck and left the ocean.

Ears and
the Auditory
Nerve :

10
Alice and Jane traveled to a farm where they found lots of birds. Chirp. Chirp. Chirp. "Do you hear that Jane?" Alice asked. "Yeah, the birds are making noises, what does that mean?" Jane said. Alice happily said, "That's your sense of sound, it works because of your auditory nerve!" Jane was confused, again. Jane asked, "What's the auditory nerve?" Alice responded, "The auditory nerve is inside your ears and it's what moves sound to your brain." Jane said, "Oh! That's really cool!" Alice laughed and said, "Yeah! Let's move on before the birds get hungry!"
