Young Aegidos, from the outskirts of Sparta, went to his mother after school. She had a sad look on her face, she said "It's time." He knew what it meant, it was time for him to be sent off to train for battle, as all 7 years old had to.
2

He went to his father, the famous general named Lysander. He told his father of the news, and his father was pleased. Lysander told him that he needed to work hard and listen to his instructors, who were very strict. He said come back when your training is over in your late teens.
3

On his way to the training dormitories, young Aegidos thought about the hardships he was about to face. The rigorous training and the constant abuse he would face from his instructors. He would miss his family
4

When Aegidos got to there, he saw all of the scary men. The teacher looked very tough and yelled at him for not walking proper. The place was dark and cold. He was afraid for the trouble to come

5
He was taken to the barracks by Lieutenant Dan. He noticed how crowded and cold it was. Most of the kids were way older and stronger than he, which worried him.

6
Then, after meeting the commanders and instructors, it was time to sleep. The bed was very uncomfortable.

7
They were forced to wake up very early and had to march through the mountains. It was cold and if you slacked, the instructors would whip you. Aegedos made sure to keep up the pace.

8
After marching several miles, they had to run back and it started to get really hot. Aegedos started lagging behind and was yelled at by the instructors who rode horses.

9
When they got back, Aegedos got into trouble with the instructors. They told him he was slacking off. They hit him to teach him a lesson and he cried. They called it corporal punishment and he hated it.

10
Once the punishment was over, they had to wrestle. He thought that he would do good because he wrestled with his friends. This was different because it was a lot more intense. He had to fight someone bigger and was lost. He felt humiliated.

11
Next thing was weapon training. They walked into a big room that had a table with many weapons. From spears to swords to hatchets they all looked fierce. His favorite was the bow and arrow which he found easy to use.

12
He snuck the bow back to his bed. As he put it back, he got caught by an instructor. Aegedos lied and said he was resting, so he was told to run 5 miles.

Run 5 miles!
13
The next day was combat day. All of them had to show off their skills with any weapon they wanted. Most used swords and spears but young Aegedos used his bow. Most kids laughed.

14
As he tried to shoot them, he continued to miss and be hit with swords. Then he felt it in his fingers and shot a kid with a bow and he fell. After he then ran and hid. As he watched a couple kids even died and he was astonished.

15
When it was over, an old man pulled Aegedos aside. He told him that he saw the way he shot that arrow and said he can be a great warrior, and that he used to be a warrior.
