Female anglerfish have a protruding piece of luminous dorsal spine over their mouths that look like a fishing pole. This is used to lure prey close enough for the fish to catch.

Blue whales are the biggest animals ever known on Earth. Their tongues alone weigh more than an elephant.

Clownfish live in sea anemones, a soft animal with stinging tentacles. The tentacles do not sting the clown fish.

Dolphins breathe air. They swim up to the surface when they need to breathe.

There are many endangered species in the ocean. Pollution is one reason these species become endangered.

Flashlight fish produce light created by glowing bacteria that live in pockets under their eyes.

Great white sharks sometimes leap out of the water to catch their prey.

Humpback whales are distinguished from other whales by the large hump on their back.

Squid release a burst of ink as a defense mechanism to get away from predators.

Jellyfish have long stinging tentacles they use to shock or kill fish.

Killer whales hunt in pods, or groups, for animals like seals, sea lions, birds, penguins, and other fish.

Lionfish get their name because of their long spines and large, flashy fins, resembling a lion's mane.

Manatees are also called sea cows because of their large size and slow moving pace.

Narwhals are said to be the unicorns of the ocean. Male narwhals have a long spiral tooth that comes out of their upper jaw and looks like a tusk.

Octopuses can change their colors to hide from predators. They can match the colors, patterns, and textures of its surroundings.

Pufferfish can inflate into a ball to escape from predators. They fill their elastic stomachs with either air or water.
