And so he flew

way, way up high

Into the crisp,

blue afternoon sky,

Until his home

he could no longer see,

All the way to the zoo

and the menagerie!

The first thing he saw,

the cute chimpanzees,

monkeys who love

to swing high in the trees.

But one wasn’t playing,

he was sitting there cryin’.

She said someone took his toy,

she thinks it was Lion.

So Avey went down

to the lion cub’s cage

to get the chimp’s toy back

so they could play.

But when he arrived,

much to his surprise,

Lion just sat there

with tears in his eyes.

Someone had taken his little toy too,

he suspected it was little Joey Kangaroo.

So off Avey hopped to little Roo’s place,

hoping he’d find the toys

so they could play.

But Roo’s toy too had been stolen

right from his box!

Between tears he cried,

“It had to be Fox!"

So brave, little Avey

trotted on down

to Fox’s humble hole

with quite a big frown.

When he arrived,

he grew even sadder.

Fox was toy-less too!

He yelled, “It was badger!”

So he borrowed a shovel from the local zookeeper

and he dug his way down, deeper and deeper,

all the way down where the light could not show,

only to find Badger was not home.

He climbed out of the hole that he had just dug

when he noticed a note near the welcome rug!

It must have fallen from the radiator,

It read, “Gone to play at Alligator’s!”

Then he had an idea.

He figured it out!

He knew what had happened,

without a doubt!

He ran back to Fox and Joey Kangaroo. Even Bo Beagle joined up with them too.

He said, “Follow me! I found your toys!”

So they all raced off quick , so full of joy!
