Once upon a time, there was a kingdom hidden deep, deep, in the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Only the creatures of the ocean knew of this great city called Verona.
It is...
“In fair Verona, where we lay our scene.”
2
3
Verona lay amidst the coral and the seaweed.
4
Two families of dolphins ruled it: the Capulets and the Montagues.
5

The Capulets and the Montagues were the greatest of enemies. No onecould remember how, or why, this was so. But one thing was clear: a Capulet would never be seen with a Montague, or a Montague with a Capulet.
“Who set this ancient quarrel new abroach?”
6
Little did they know that this was about to change…
7
One day Lord Capulet decided to throw a big party. He invited everyone under the sea to Verona, except the Montagues.
“This night I hold an old accustomed feast. Whereto I have invited many a guest.”
“If you be not of the house of Montagues, I pray come and crush a cup of wine.”
8
9
In a clever disguise, Lord Montague’s youngest son, Romeo, swam his way into the party.
“And we mean well in going to this masque.”

10
That night, something magical happened. Romeo and Lord Capulet's daughter, Juliet, met and fell in love.
11
Romeo asked a friend,
“What lady’s that which doth enrich the hand of yonder knight?
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear.”
Juliet at the same time asked her handmaiden,
“Go ask his name.
If he be married,
My grave is like to be my wedding bed.”
12
Their love would change the course of history for the two families.
13
Romeo and Juliet found that they could not bear to be apart, even though they knew their love was forbidden.
Romeo would hide below Juliet’s bedroom window in the hope of catching a glimpse of his beloved. Thinking of her, and sometimes seeing movement in her room, he would say:
“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon.”
14
15
Then, one night, Juliet came to her window. She did not know that Romeo was floating below, and to the silence of the sea she professed her love for Romeo:
“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse they name,
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.”
16

17
Upon hearing Juliet’s passionate words, Romeo leapt for joy and cried out,
“I take thee at thy word.
Call me but love and I'll be new baptized.
Henceforth I never will be Romeo.”
18
As so began their fairy tale
19
After much thought, Romeo turned to Friar Lawrence, a monk and dear friend of the Montagues. Romeo hoped that Friar Lawrence would agree to unite him and Juliet in marriage.
20
Because of the bad blood between the Capulets and the Montagues, Friar Lawrence was reluctant to help at first. Eventually, he saw that the marriage of Romeo and Juliet might just be a way of ending the feud between the two families. He thought,
“In one respect I'll thy assistant be,
For this alliance may so happy prove,
To turn your households' rancour to pure love.”
