Nightmares.
Everybody has had them, everybody has had their worst nightmare and often, people remember their worst nightmare and not their best. Why is that? Why do we have nightmares? Why do they differ?
2
"According to a new study by researchers at the University of Montreal, nightmares have greater emotional impact than bad dreams do, and fear is not always a factor. In fact, it is mostly absent in bad dreams and in a third of nightmares. What is felt, instead, is sadness, confusion, guilt, disgust, etc. "
3
Physical aggression is the most common form of reported nightmare. Some are so intense that the person wakes up. These are nightmares. On the other hand, bad dreams mostly reflect emotions felt during the day.
4
To add, Nightmares in men and women vary greatly. Nightmares in men were more likely than those of women to contain themes of disasters and things such as floods, earthquakes and war while themes involving interpersonal conflicts were twice as frequent in the nightmares of women.
5
Nightmares are not a disease, but can cause a huge problem for the individual. Some nightmares are repeated every night, and can cause artificial insomnia. Then the individual has trouble sleeping again.
6
Intense nightmares can be caused by a traumatic event, drug withdrawal, or alcohol withdrawal. if these cause REM sleep, the individual will remember the whole thing and it will often repeat itself.
7
"The good news is that nightmares are treatable. Through visualization techniques, patients learn to change the scenario of one or more of their dreams and repeat the new scenario using a mental imagery technique. It can be through a life-saving act (the dreamer confronts the attacker) or a supernatural intervention (Superman comes to the rescue). All in mid-dream!"
8
Some nightmares can help actually! there have been several examples of times this has happened, heres one example.
