"Our purpose in Vietnam is to prevent the success of aggression. It is not conquest, it is not empire, it is not foreign bases, it is not domination. It is, simply put, just to prevent the forceful conquest of South Vietnam by North Vietnam."
-Lyndon B Johnson
I think this quote is saying that we don't want to take over South or North Vietman, we just don't want communism to spread. America is trying to help South Vietman stay the way it is. We want North Vietman to stay away from South Vietman. Everything should stay the way it is.

“Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on Brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights? No I’m not going 10,000 miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would cost me millions of dollars. But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom and equality. If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my people they wouldn’t have to draft me, I’d join tomorrow. I have nothing to lose by standing up for my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail, so what? We’ve been in jail for 400 years."
-Muchammad Ali

This quote is talking about how African Americans were fighting Vietman War, but still not getting the respect or rights they deserve. They could die for the US but, still couldn't eat in the same part of a restaurant as white people. He is saying that there is war in Vietman, but aslo in America. We should be fighting in America for African America to have equal rights. Don't go to war in Vietman, stay here and fight for them.

"I firgue all any kids need is hope and the feeling he or she belongs. If I could do or say anything that could give some kid that feeling, I believe I had contributed something to the world."
-Elivs Presley
Elivs is saying that we wants to go into the Vietman War ro make a difference in the lives of children now and in the future. When people found out that Elivs had be drafted into the war, they sent in letters for him to be spared. He however wanted to go to war. He wanted to help the war effort the best he would. He honored the draft even though his descion was unpopular.

War, huh yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, oh hoh, oh
War huh yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, say it again y'all
War, huh good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, listen to me
Oh, war, I despise
'Cause it means destruction of innocent lives
War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go off to fight and lose their lives
-War by Edwin Starr

This song is saying that the war is unnecessary. The war is good for nothing. It is toxic for the US and Vietman. America should leave the war so we don't kill more citzens who are not involved with the war. We are causing too much destruction.

"Both in Vietnam and Washington to have faith any longer in the silver linings they find in the darkest clouds. For it seems now more certain than ever, that the bloody experience of Vietnam is to end in a stalemate. To say that we are closer to victory today is to believe in the face of the evidence, the optimists who have been wrong in the past."
-Walter Cronkite
This quote is saying that neither side can see a good reason to be in war with each other. There will be no happy ending in this war. American and Viteman need to end this war. The war is over for both sides.

"I was a hippe during this time period. I though the war was causing uncessary pain and loose. Not only in the US but also in Vietman. So many unarmed citizens were being killled by the US. I didn't support the war effort."
-Aunt Fran
