A long time ago, before even your great-great-great grandmother roamed this Earth, Giraffe's were an animal living on the African Plain. However, back then, the Giraffe looked quite different than what we are used to today. Giraffes used to have a very normal sized neck, like that of a dog. Instead of eating the leaves at the tops of trees, they ate from average bushes. This is the way it was, and it worked very well for the Giraffe.

Giraffe's were, and still are, relatively peaceful creatures. They did not cause any trouble with any of the other animals in Africa, and most animals considered the Giraffe's friends. Except for the Hyena's.
4

5
If Giraffe's were peaceful, friendly creatures, then the Hyena's were the complete opposite. They were sneaky, rude, and very competitive with all animals. Most creatures decided to just stay away from the Hyena's, because being their friend was absolutely no fun. This made the Hyena's even more spiteful.
6

7
The Hyena’s were never invited to dinners or parties held on the African Plain, and nobody said hello to the Hyena’s when they passed by.
8

9
However, there is one thing that nobody could take away from the Hyena's: their speed. At the animal races every summer, the Hyena's won without any competition.
10

11
The African animals stayed farther and farther away from the Hyena’s, and they Hyena’s got meaner and more spiteful. They became so spiteful that they would ruin the water in the watering hole by throwing leaves in it, scare the animals as they roamed the Plain, and pull pranks on them.
12

13
The other animals decided to have a meeting about how to solve their Hyena problem. So all of the leaders from the different animal tribes met together one evening.

All of the animal leaders met together one evening to discuss what to do about the Hyena's.
"We must work together to beat the Hyena's in the summer games.

And we cannot cheat, because this would only further the Hyena's anger
We must all begin training tonight to find the fastest animal

15
It soon became evident that not all the animals stood a chance against the Hyena's. The Elephants and Hippos were just to big. The Lions and the Cheetah were pretty fast but nothing compared to the Hyena's. However, one animal, the Giraffe, showed a lot of promise. One in particular, Gloria, seemed to be the best of all the Giraffe's. But Gloria was very nervous about the race.
16
“I am very scared about the big race,” she told her best friend, “but everyone is relying on me so I must train very hard!”

17
As her training continued, she got a great idea! She only told her best friend about the idea, because she was worried people would make fun of it.
18
I can stretch out my neck, so that I am longer than the Hyena’s! This will help give me an advantage without cheating!

19
As she continued her training the other animals began to notice that her neck was looking different than the other Giraffe's. When they finally learned of her plan, they all thought it was brilliant and began finding ways to help her stretch her neck.
