My grandfather, Duane Brummer, was born in Osborne County, Kansas in 1936. He grew up in Cawker City, Kansas.

His favorite memory from his childhood is spending time with his 3 brothers. They were very playful with each other and were always wrestling. He also had two sisters.

As he was growing up his family was full of loving and kindhearted people. They were very hardworking and pushed him to do his best in life.

As a teenager, Dwayne was a fun-loving and happy individual. He loved getting to spend time with his friends and family, as well as play sports.

When he was a teen he had many favorite pastimes. However, his favorite thing to do was play baseball.

He never had any problem with going to school and it was actually something that he quite enjoyed. He does wish that he wouldn't have slacked as much and would've listened to his teachers more.

Something he wishes he would've tried to do as as a teenager and young adult is stick with playing baseball. He wishes he could've perhaps played professional baseball.

The first car that he ever got was a 1929 Chevy coupe. It was his favorite car and he really enjoyed the freedom that having his own car gave him. He wishes that he still had the car today and that it wouldn't have broken down.

As he was growing up he was a pretty good person and never got into any trouble with the law. Nor did he every really get into trouble with his parents.

The first job he ever got was working for a company in Beloit that built steel buildings. He didn't like nor dislike the job seeing as it had pretty good pay but it was extremely hard work.

The first things that ever made him truly feel like an adult were moving out of his parents house, getting his own house, getting a job, and going to college.

He has now been married twice and he has been with his current wife for 17 years. He also had 3 children. Something he was slightly surprised by when he first got married and had children was the feeling of total responsibility for another human being.

Throughout his whole entire life he never had a wide variety of pets. However, he did have multiple Britney hunting dogs at different periods in his life. He loved having the as both pets and hunting companions.

If he could change one decision he made in his twenties, he would change his choice of occupation. He enjoyed being a woodworker throughout his life but he wishes he would've gotten a job doing something else.

His favorite thing that he got to take part in while growing up was being in the army. He enjoyed the experience of getting to serve his country. Although, going to war did did have some negative affects on him personally.

Something he wishes he could go back in time and change is the fact that he started smoking. He didn't think about it at the time and now, because of his mistake, he's suffering from multiple health issues.

A lesson he has learned is that to be the happiest person you can be you need to love your family and friends, be polite and kind, keep good friends, and just try your best to be an overall good person

His biggest regret in life is that he left college to join the army. He wishes he would've finished school before he enlisted.

His proudest moment in life was when he got to serve his country.

He said that the biggest piece of advice he can give to teens is to get a good education. Also, follow your dreams no matter what other people say or think.
