Once a year does this party happen. It’s, by far, my favorite DekOwens party of the year. You may be asking now “What in the world is DekOwens?!” And the answer to that is it’s basically a combination of our last names. We are close family friends with some people with the last name DeKok, we are Owens, so we combined them and made DekOwens! Now you might be asking “Why do you say this is your favorite party? Do you have several?” Yes, we have more than I can count. There is Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Years, Whenever my sisters come home to visit from wherever they were living at that time, and my favorite, 4th of July!

This is my favorite because I love the colors and the people. Usually my childhood friends and their family join us for 4th of July also, Caramelo and Violeta are their parents, Jazmin and Valeria are my longest friends, and Brian and Jonathan are their younger brothers. Kellen and I are best friends, Kellen is a year younger than me and he’s the weirdest person I know, including myself. He has his almost pure white hair in the summertime.

The wind runs through my hair and my dress flies behind me like a little ghost follows me to keep up, the sunlight warms my face. I stand on the back of the golf cart as Kellen is driving all over his large farmland house. I hear the crackling of the gravel as Jazmin and Val drive up. Soon our food is done and we sit on top of the hill eating watermelon. “Can we sit with you now?!” Says Jazmin and Valeria’s little brother Brian.“No!” We all yell in unison.
