One day the children who lived next door to Mr.Twiddle made a snowman in his garden. Mrs.Twiddle permitted them to do so because her garden was much bigger than theirs.
3
4
The children built a snowman quite as tall as their daddy and very fat and round.
5

6
'Mrs.Twiddle, Mrs.Twiddle, can we have an old hat for his head and an old scarf for his neck? called the children looking at the window where she was baking cakes.
7

8
'Oh, good!' shouted the children, and they tore off to get the clothes. They found them all - and they found Mr. Twiddle's stick too, which they borrowed for their funny old snowman.
9

10
He did look grand when he was finished and dressed up! You should have seen him, with Mr.Twiddles old hat on his head, a scarf tied loosely round his fat neck, ragged gloves on his round hands and a stick through his arm!
11

12
He looked very fine indeed, and the children were proud of him. Mrs.Twiddle looked out of the window, laughed and said,'He just wants a pipe to stick in his mouth and then he'll be happy. Here's one of Mr.Twiddle's.
13

14
Mr.Twiddle had been to see his brother in the next village and so it was almost dark when he came home. He stumped in at the front gate, tired and hungry and suddenly saw the old snow man standing still in his front garden.
15

16
'Hello!' said Mr.Twiddle in surprise. Who's that? What are you doing here, my good man?
The good man didn't answer. Mr.Twiddle grew cross.
'Don't try to hide from me in the darkness' he said.
17

18
The snowman said nothing at all. Mr.Twiddle marched up to him and looked at him as closely as he could in the half - darkness.
' You've got my hat! My dear old comfortable hat! How dare you take my hat ? Give it to me at once!'
19

20
The snowman just stood still and stared at him .'And you've got my scarf on' roared Mr.Twiddle. 'What next I'd like to know'. I suppose you've been sneaking round my house putting your hands on all my things.
21

22
The snowman stared and said nothing. Furious Mr.Twiddle threatened to call the policeman."Don't you have a tongue to answer me?"he roared.
The poor snowman stood still and quiet angering Mr.Twiddle all the more.
