Self Esteem and Body Image - Chapter 1
Self esteem is your confidence in your own worth or abilities and how you recognize or appreciate your individual character, qualities, skills, and accomplishments.
Your self esteem can affect your body image. If you have low self esteem, you will have poor body image but if you have high self esteem your body image will be healthier.

To improve self esteem, build up a support system that will help create a positive environment, avoid unhealthy media, and think positively about your body image.
To improve body image, put healthy foods and thoughts into your body.

Dating Guidelines - Chapter 2
Characteristics of a healthy relationship
- trust

- feelings are shared honestly and openly
- both people put the relationship before themselves

Sexting Guidelines - Chapter 3
Sexting is when people take and send revealing pictures of themselves or send sexually explicit messages via text message.
Kids sext on their cellphones by sending explicit images to other people to show off or prove commitment.

Some of the dangers of sexting is that the pictures could get out into the public and lead to bullying.
Some consequences are that if those pictures get released online then college reps and employers might find it online and cost them the job.

Dating Violence Guidelines - Chapter 4
Three different types of dating violence
- verbal and emotional
- physical

If you are experiencing dating violence you should get help.
You can talk to:
- teacher
- nurse
- parent
- counselor

The cycle of violence depicts a pattern often experienced in abusive relationships. It occurs in this order typically:
- honeymoon phase
- tension building
- explosion

Sexual Harassment Guidelines - Chapter 5
There are two types of sexual harassment - Quid pro quo and hostile work environment.
Quid pro quo means "this for that". It is expressed or implied demands for sexual favors in exchange for some benefit.

Hostile work environment is when speech or conduct is so severe that is creates an intimidating or demeaning environment or situation that negatively affects a person's job performance
How to Respond to Harassment
- tell them to stop
- tell someone in authority
- ask for help

- emotional and psychological harm
- diminished ability to work
- creates nervousness
- deteriorate work enviroment

Cyber-bullying and Bullying Guidelines - Chapter 6
Bullying is harassment in person while cyber-bullying is entirely online usually on social media because it provides anonymity.
Consequences
-depression
- anxiety
- increased feeling of sadness and loneliness
- changes in sleep and eating patterns

Three types of bullying are verbal, physical, and social.
Physical - hitting, kicking, tripping, or damaging property
Verbal- name calling, insults, teasing, intimidation, or verbal abuse
Social- lying, spreading rumors, damaging someone's social reputation

Mental Disorders - Chapter 7
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It affects the way you think, feel, and behave and can lead to a variety of physical and emotional problems. Depression isn't a weakness and you can't just snap out of it. It may require long term treatment but most people with depression eel better with medication and psychological counseling.

Many untreated people with depression end up committing suicide. People suffering from depression believe that suicide is the only way out of sadness.
Approximately 5,000 people between 15- 24 commit suicide each year in America.
