Magna Carta

Mayflower Compact
1620An agreement signed by the men in the
Mayflower ship, established self-government
and majority rule.



New England Region
Early 1600'sDemocratic society where religion is very
important and kids went to public schools.
People were very social and economy was
based on lumber, ship building,ect.



Middle Region
Early 1600'sThe Middle region was the melting point of the
colonies. Everyone was very accepting of one
another. Education was all private school.



Southern Colonies
Early 1600'sIn the south people worked on farms and
produced cash crops. Only white people can
vote and there were very few private schools
for education. People were very spread
out,therefore not very interactive.



American Revolution


French & Indian War
1754-1763This war began because the colonists moved
into the Ohio Valley.



Treaty of Paris 1763
1763The Treaty of Paris 1763 called for France to
give Britain all territory east of the Mississippi
River.



Proclamation of 1763
1763The Proclamation forbade colonists to move
west of the Appalachian Mountains.



Sugar Act
1764This placed a tax on sugar, molasses and other
products shipped to the colonists ; also called
for harsh punishment for smugglers.



Quartering Act
1765The Quartering Act required the colonists to
house and supply British soldiers.



Stamp Act
1765The Stamp Act required all legal and
commercial documents to carry an official
stamp sharing a tax had been paid.



Townshed Act
1767This suspended New York's assembly and
established taxes on goods brought into British
colonies.



Boston Massacre
1770The Boston red coats killed 5 colonists while
guarding a tax office.



Boston Tea Party
1773The dumping of 343 chests of tea into the
Boston Harbor by colonists to protect the Tea
Act.



Intolerable Act
1774A series of laws enacted by Parliament to
punish Massachusetts colonists for the Boston
tea Party.



Lexington & Concord
1775This was the first military engagements of the
American Revolution.



Declaration of Independence
1776The Declaration of Independence called for
Independence from Britain.



Saratoga
1777This battle was the turning point in the
Americans war of Independence.



Yorktown
1781This battle was known as the last major
engagement of the American Revolution.
Britain surrendered!!



Articles of Confederation
1781This was an agreement among the 13 founding
states that legally established the United
States of America of sovereign states and
served as its first Constitution.
