This book is dedicated to Victoria Beckham, who I didn't know was a Spice Girl.

"Hello, my name is Moana and I am getting ready to start my new school year. I am very excited, but I am kind of behind on my grammar and punctuation skills. I talked to my parents and they said I should visit some of the smartest creatures around town to see if they could help me learn some basic skills. You get to come with me on my journey and learn new grammar and punctuation skills! Let's go!"

"Our first stop today is with Craig the Comma Crab. Thank you for helping me out today Craig!" Craig responds, "Oh, no problem! So, today I am going to teach you about commas. One way to use commas is to use it to separate 2 describing words, also known as adjectives. Here is an example of the correct way to use a comma."
She had a big, bright smile. or He was a tall, masculine man.
"The 2 adjectives in each sentence were 'big' and 'bright' and 'tall' and 'masculine'. One mistake that is made a lot is putting a comma after the last adjective, that is the wrong use of a comma. Here is an example."
She bought a soft, white, coat.
"That makes so much sense now! Thanks Craig!" said Moana. "You're welcome Moana! Now, onto the next way to use commas!" Craig said excitedly.

"The next way to use commas is to separate a regular sentence and a quote. If you started off with a regular sentence and then a quote, the comma would go right before the quote. Here is an example."

"A common mistake people make is to not even put a comma before the quote. Here is another example."
Hugh said with passion "I love this song!"
"Thank you so much for helping me today Craig!" said Moana. "You're welcome. If you ever need help again, you know where to find me!"

"Our next stop today is with Wendy the Word Whale. Hi Wendy!" Wendy responds, " Hi Moana, it's nice to meet you! We have a lot to cover today, so let's get started. We will be talking about when to use certain words and the differences. First, is affect vs. effect. Affect is used as a verb (action word) and effect issued as a noun (person, place, or thing). Here is the correct way to use both."
The rain will affect my garden.
The special effects were awesome!
"Next, allot vs. a lot. This one isn't as common, but when used it is easily mixed up. Allot means "distribute" and a lot means "many". Here is the correct way to use these."
There were a lot of people.
The land was allotted to 2 famers.

"Next, is lie vs. lay. Lie is used when there is no direct object and lay is used when there is a direct object. Here are some examples."
She lays the book on the table.
I lie down on my bed after school.
"The last words are, me vs. I. Me is what the verb is talking about and I is what the sentence is about. Here are the last examples."
The waitress served me.
I went to the store.
"Thank you so much! I have to go to my next stop now, I will see you soon. Bye" said Moana as she waved goodbye.

"Now, I am with Sandy the Semi Colon Sea Lion. Hi Sandy!" said Moana. Sandy responded, "Hi Moana, let's get started with our lesson. Semi colons are used to separate 2 big sentence elements. These are some examples so you know how to use them."
She baked a cake; everybody loved it.
He finished his test early; his final grade was 100%.
"This one is kind of difficult, but if you practice you will get the hang of it." said Sandy. Moana felt very confident about the lessons she has learned today. "Thank you, see you later Sandy!" Moana swam to her next stop.

"This is Connor the Colon Fish. Hi Connor!" said Moana. "Hey! Coolons seem difficult, but they are actually pretty easy. You can use a colon before a list or to separate 2 clauses. Here are some examples."
