When Emma was born her parent's knew she was an extraordinary little girl. She was beautiful and they knew she was going to be such a smart and creative little girl.

As she grew up, they realized she didn't communicate like many other young children. They really wanted to talk to their little girl so they began to learn sign language.

They began to teach Emma sign language and loved having more opportunities to communicate with their beautiful daughter. Would you like to learn some basic sign language?

Awesome! Let's begin with learning how to address your caregivers. Remember, all families look different some families consist of a mom and dad, mom and mom, dad and dad, grandparents, step parents, and more. We will learn mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa.

Signing Mom, Mother, or Mommy:

Spread out your fingers, having your pinkie facing outward tap your thumb on your chin. Try it!

Good job! You just signed Mommy!

Signing Dad, Father, or Daddy:

This looks very similar to mom except you tap your thumb on your forehead. Try this! Spread out your fingers, having your pinkie facing outward and tap your thumb on your forehead.

Great job! You just signed Dad!

Signing Grandma:

This is the same sign for mother except when you tap your thumb on your chin you move your hand forward in two small arches. Spread out your fingers, with your pinkie facing outward and tap thumb against your chin adding the two small arches.

Signing Grandpa:

This is the same sign for father except when you tap your thumb on your forehead you move your hand forward in two small arches. Spread out your fingers, with your pinkie facing outward and tap thumb against your forehead adding the two small arches.

Some families also have cats or dogs. These are different kind of family members. We will learn the signs for these next. Are you ready?
