THE PIRATE'S COVEEarly one Saturday morning, Andrea and Jack were eating
breakfast when Jack said to Andrea, "It's going to be a
beautiful weekend, why don't we surprise the boys and take
them fishing. We could drive to California, rent a boat, and
fish all weekend." Andrea thought it was a great idea and
said, "The boys would really enjoy the trip."
Jack and Andrea walked into Logan and Taylor's bedroom.
Daddy said, "Boys, how would you like to go to California
for the weekend and go fishing." The boys were so excited;
they leaped out of bed and into Mommy and Daddy's arms.

Logan and Taylor quickly got dressed, ate
breakfast, and packed for their trip.
Taylor asked, "Daddy can we take Daisy with
us?" Daddy thought for a second and said, "I
think that would be a great idea!"

The trip to California was a lot of fun. They
played games and sang songs, all except Daisy
who slept during the whole trip.
Once they arrived at the ocean, Logan, Taylor
and Daisy ran toward the shore. Daisy started
to run after a crab. The boys ran after Daisy
yelling, "Be careful, the crab is going to bite
your nose." Daisy heard the boys calling her,
so she stopped chasing the crab and ran
toward them.

While the boys were chasing after their dog, Daddy rented
a large boat. He packed the boat with bait and fishing
gear. In the meantime, Mommy when to the store and
bought food and treats for the trip.
When they boarded the boat, the sky was blue and not a
cloud could be seen. The man at the boat rental shop
suggested they could fish off a small island about 10 miles
from shore. He told them there was a reef that was filled
with all types of fish; sailfish, sharks, large sunfish and
more. He gave them a map, and they were on their way.

They were about an hour out, when all of a
sudden a huge storm suddenly appeared. The
sky became black and the wind started to blow
the boat around in circles. Logan, Taylor,
Mommy, Daddy and Daisy huddled in the front of
the boat holding each other as tightly as they
could. The ocean's waves were tossing the boat
all around. Water was pouring into the boat
from all sides. Logan and Taylor grabbed a
couple of bait buckets, filled them up with the
water that poured into the boat and threw it
back into the ocean.

As quickly as the storm came, it suddenly stopped. Now
everyone was scooping water out of the boat, so they could
stay afloat. They couldn't see the shore anymore. Logan
was looking around and spotted what looked like a small
island.
Daddy and Taylor steered the boat toward the island.
Mommy was gathering the fresh water and food that didn't
fall overboard. They were lost and had no idea where they
were.
Logan reassured everyone by saying, "It doesn't matter that
we're lost, we made it through the storm safely and we're
all together." Everyone smiled. Daisy had no idea what
happened, but she was glad the boat stopped moving back
and forth.

The boat barely made it to the shore. The
storm had damaged the motor and steering
gear. Once they made it to the island, they
were hoping they would find someone who
could help them get back to California.
The island had a large beach area and was
filled with trees, bushes and plants. Daddy
said, "Let's take the fishing gear and food out
of the boat, then build a fire so we can dry
off." While everyone was drying off, Mommy
made lunch.

After they finished eating, Daddy said, "We need to
come up with a plan. So far, we haven't seen anyone
else on the island. We need to explore and see if
anyone lives here. But first, we need to find fresh
water and build a shelter."
Taylor said, "Daddy, Logan and I will explore the
island." Daddy said, "That sounds like a good idea.
Why don't you take Daisy with you. Mommy and I will
explore the other side of the island. But first, we need
to build a shelter."

They built a shelter with branches and wood
they found on the island. Then Logan, Taylor
and Daisy left to explore the island. As they
continued to walk deeper and deeper into the
island it started to look more and more like a
jungle.

Daisy ran ahead sniffing at all the plants.
Daisy spotted a small chipmunk and started
chasing after it. When the boys called for her
to come back, she turned to look at them and
ran right into a tree.

A little further down the path, Taylor spotted a
pond and hoped it was filled with fresh water.
Taylor walked to the edge of the pond; bent
over to taste it, looked up, and saw two eyes
starring back at him. He didn't move Taylor
whispered to Daisy, "Get Logan." Daisy slowly
backed up and ran to find Logan.

Daisy saw Logan and started to jump up and
down on him. Logan said, "What is it girl?"
"Did something happen to Taylor?" "Go ahead
and I'll follow you."
As Logan came near the pond, he noticed that
his brother was only inches away from an
alligator. Logan quietly walked around to the
other side of the pond and behind the alligator,
grabbed its tail and flung it as hard as he could
against a tree.

Taylor, Logan and Daisy ran as fast as they
could away from the alligator. When they
stopped, they were so out of breath, they
could hardly breathe. Taylor hugged his
brother and thanked him. Logan said, "No
problem dude, you'd do the same for me."
After that incident, the boys decided they
would stay together.
While they were walking on a narrow path,
Logan stopped dead in his tracks. Next to his
foot was a large brightly colored snake.

Taylor, who was walking behind Logan, saw the
snake and quietly took a few steps backward. He
noticed a branch with a tip that was "Y" shaped. He
picked up the branch, walked quietly around to his
brother and with all his strength, jabbed the branch
over the head of the snake so it couldn't move. The
boys ran away as fast as they could. Logan turned
toward his brother and said. "Thanks dude, now
we're even." They looked at each other and
laughed.

The boys noticed a hill up ahead and decided to
climb it. When they got to the top, they looked out
toward the ocean. The boys couldn't believe what
they saw. There was a small cove with a boat
sitting inside it. The boat was black, had white
sails and a flag on the top. The flag had a skull
and cross bones on it. Logan exclaimed, "What is a
pirate ship doing here?" Taylor said, "We better be
careful and not let them see us. We need to go
back and tell Mommy and Daddy."

When the boys got back to the shelter, they
were out of breath. They told their parents
about the pirate ship in the cove. Their
parents couldn't believe that pirates could be
so close to California. But, then again, since
the storm blew them off course, they had no
idea where they were.
Mommy said, "We better be careful. We need
to find out what the pirates are up to. Jack,
why don't you and the boys go to the cove and
check out the situation."

"Daisy and I will stay here and protect all of
our belongings in case the pirates come by our
shelter."
"I'll build a fire as a signal so we can be
rescued, since there doesn't seem to be
anyone else on the island to help us."
The boys and Daddy gave Mommy a hug and
kissed her before they left on their journey to
the cove.

They were in the middle of the jungle when all
of a sudden, Daddy fell. His foot got stuck in a
large hole. He tried to get up, but it was too
painful. Daddy thought that he sprained his
ankle. Logan said, "Daddy what are we going
to do now?" Daddy said, "I'll stay here and
you boys check out the cove, but be extremely
careful."
Logan and Taylor said that they would be
careful. They'll check out the pirate's ship,
come back, and let Daddy know what's
happening.
