In ancient Egypt, the Egyptians got a lot of their food
from the fish that filled the Nile River. There were also
a lot of edible plants that included herbs, legumes and
cereals (especially wheat) and fruits such as dates and
grapes, however, rich people got most of that food.
They also got food from irrigation, taxes, plows, and
trade. There were also a lot of flat, open plains in Egypt
that made it easier to plant crops. There was also great
weather there and fertile soil from when the Nile River
floods.
Stable Food Supply

Pharaohs were believed, by the Egyptians, to be
living gods. Citizens were often forced into labor to
pay labor taxes. Government officials were often
seen wearing white. They were expected to be fair.
The first African Pharaoh's name was "Pi".
Hatshepshut was the first female Pharaoh that
dressed as a man! That was probably because
females didn't get as much respect as males back
then.

WritingThe Egyptians wrote in writing called hieroglyphics.
The Egyptians called hieroglyphs "The Words Of
God", and were mainly used by priests. They are
written in four rows and can be read from left to
right or right to left. Hieroglyphics were often used
for decorating the walls of temples.

Social StructureMost of their buildings and temples were built by
slaves. They had pyramids that they buried people
in because the Egyptians believed that people came
back to life (afterlife). Egyptian society is
structured like a pyramid. They believed that the
gods controlled the universe, so it was important
that they keep the gods happy. They could make
the Nile overflow, or even bring death.

ArtThe hieroglyphics that they wrote in, was very
artistic. The jewelery they made was also very
artistic. The Dayr al-Bahri was Pharaoh
Hatshepshut's monument. It was decorated with
stones of her religion. Their pyramids were even
artistic (mostly the insides). So were tombs (mostly
the upper-class ones.).
