Most night's are cold VERY cold, Nessa's cries usually wake me, but not today. "Mama is still gone, she left for supplies 5 weeks ago" I think to myself " Is she coming back" I think with tears.
The sun rises along with my sobs "another day". I wake with a groan. I grab our mud filled pan and I rinsed it out with the spring water. I walk over to the cabinet I open it hoping that the squeal doesn't wake Nessa. Only Beans which Ness hates " you have to eat them to live" I tell her.
Nessa wakes and we eat the beans, with little complaint. I must go hunt for dinner, Nessa don't like when I have to hunt because it is usually deer, rabbits or squirrels.
I grab my weapon and Nessa goes in the trailer to hide. I make her stay here when I hunt because I know she will interfere with me shooting.
"Hello, Jenessa, Carey are you here?" first I think it is mama, but then I hear a man.
"Carey honey please come out" he says his eyes tearing up . I jump and hide behind the purple Azalea bush.
I really want to come out but im scared for my sister but also for me. Mama is going to be upset when she finds out that some one knows where we live. Mama always kept are location and our names a secret she says it is to protect us from the "bad people".
"CRACK" I fall backwards on a pile of sticks. The two strangers turn around and look at me. The mans tears roll down his face faster that a waterfall. Through his sobs he says "I've finally found my little girl".
I look at the man highly confused mama said that my father was dead. Was she lying??
The lady starts to talk but im to busy watching the man cry.
Why is he crying? Mama had always said that men don't cry.
" Carey, how long has your mother been gone" the lady asked concerned.
"she should be back soon" the lady stares me in the eye " about.... five weeks" I say shakily.
"where is your sister, Jenessa?" the lady asked.
"she is at the trailer" I say staring at the ground.
"can you, show us?" the lady ask.
I walk to the trailer, the strangers following behind.
"Nessa, you can come out" I say after we walk in the old dilapidated trailer. Nessa appears and so does her big smile, until she seen the strangers. Her eyes get big, and she points behind me.
"Honey I know, they are here to help us" I say in a happy voice. She turns and whispers in my ear.
"what are they're names".
"she wants to know what your names are, and so do I" I say.
The lady speaks first "Mrs. Haskell" she looks at he man and he looks at me and says "im your father". I cry to through my cries I say "she says you were dead".
I am packing a bag full of Mine and Nessa's clothes and important items so we could leave all of this behind. I spot when I find Nessa's Pooh book And I pick it up slowly memories coming back. I grab my violin case and move out the door and find my father and Haskell talking to Nessa.
" Ready to leave" I say.
