Cronos became king because he killed his own father, Uranus. Uranus had prophesied, saying "you muder me now and steal my thrown- but one of your own sons will dethrone you, for crime being crime."
So Cronos became very careful and what he did with his kids. One by one, he swallowed his children as they were born....all except one. Rhea, his wife snuck there last child down the hill from Olympus to a dark place to have there new born son Zeus. Zeus was given to a shepherd family to be raised.
Zeus be came a young man after some years went by. Cronos still had no idea about Zeus. however Rhea became lonely for him, so she went go get Zeus and he meet his father. His father was shocked that the boy was so handsome.

Zeus and his mother, rhea prepared a special drink for Cronos. They mixed mustard and salt with nectar. The next morning came about, and Cronos took a big sip of the special drink and he immediately started trowing up his children! First it was a stoned that his mother tricked Cronos with, then it was Hestia, Demeter, Hera,Hades, and Poseidon.

They were still undigested, still alive. They thanked Zeus and they immediately chose him to be their leader. Then a battle sprung about. cronos was joined by the titans, his half-brothers, huge, twisted, dark creatures taller than trees, whom he kept pent up in the mountains until there was fighting to be done.

Cronos and his half-brothers attacked young gods furiously. Zeus also had allies on his side as well. It was his cousins, from very deep and dark caves. Cronos was old but strong, he was driving the young gods before him.
Zeus didn't let it happen for long, Zeus had laid a trap half way up Olympus, he gave his cousins the sign to attack. They took up huge boulders and pushes them down the hill, the enemy broke ranks and fled. The young gods then was safe on Olympus where they took over the castle and made Zeus king.
