I dedicate this legend to my fourth grade teachers for helping me and giving me inspiration to this legend.

The Legend of Serpent Mound
By: Alec Pramaggiore
On January 1, 1801, a person named Cole walked into his house. In a new house of course because he moved to what now is called Toledo to what now is called Peebles, Ohio. I am Cole. And in the state of Ohio, there are many legends of many mysterious places. So here, right now, I am going to tell you, The Legend of Serpent Mound.
John walked in the woods with his brothers and sisters. The woods were no ordinary woods because in that woods, there lies a serpent greener than the greenest green. Ashook was its name and everybody knew it except John.
“ It will haunt you in your sleep” One of John’s brothers said spookley. “ Mwah- Ha-Ha”
“Forget it!” John yelled. “ I am leaving!” he yelled again. Forever! Good Bye!” and like a snap of a finger, he packed up all his things and left.
John quickly learned how to survive in the woods. Everyday he’d go and gather nuts and berries, for food, wood, to make a fire with and to stay warm on cold nights, and a bucket of water to drink.
He lived under old tree roots which had been abandoned by an animal who used to live in a burrow. Then out of the woods, there was a rustle in the leaves. “Who’s there?” John asked.
“John come to me. Do not fear John” John stood up and looked around the woods to see if he can see the person or what ever the voice was.
“Who and where are you. How do you know my name?” John asked even more cautious than a rabbit coming out of a hole.
“Ahem, you are standing on me.” the voice said. And the voice was right. John was standing on a green, scaly back of what was like a giant snake. It was the serpent.
John was very scared at first. But then out of the blue, the mighty serpent started crying like a baby when it is hungry. “Why is everybody afraid of me. Why does nobody like me? Why?” the serpent whimpered. Tears fell from the sky like giant rain. Then it happened.
“Wait!” John yelled up to the serpent. “I’ll be your friend!” Then I honestly don’t know how but an oak tree grew.
“ Really?” asked the serpent. “ Me friends with you? Don’t you think I am ‘scary’ or ‘horrible’?” asked the serpent wiping off a tear as big as an elephant.
“ Yes, no, and no for your information. Do you have any other questions?” asked John.
“Yippee! I have a friend!” roared the serpent.
“ I-I-got to go,” the boy said as he walked back and ran like the wind. He ran 1,000 miles to where his home was. “ Mommy! Mommy!” John yelled as he bursted through the door. “ Mom?”” he asked to a woman he thinks he recognizes but doesn’t.
“If I think I know you, I don’t and the people who moved away moved to London, England. But if you want to stay there are”
“Seven rooms. Three on one side of the hallway, and three on the other side of the hallway, then one at the end of the hallway. Yeah, I know, I used to live here.”
“ Blah, Blah, Blah.” she mimicked like she couldn’t care less.
“What day is it?” John asked.
“ Monday. Why do you pop the question?” replied the lady.
“Because my mother made muffins on Monday.”
“ Well, tough luck, because I ain’t make no muffins.” the lady replied.
“ Well then, I will leave.” John said with conviction. And then, John dropped the hat by walking out of the house and ran back another 1,000 miles, at 100 miles per hour, back to the serpent.
