I couldn’t take it any longer. I couldn’t stand to look into the laughing eyes
of my peers. All I felt was humiliation, betrayal, and hurt. How could he do
that to me? Two years of emotions and feelings were thrown away the second
he did it. My friends wouldn’t even look at me. Everyone turned their head
away as I walked down the hall, only to start snickering and gossiping about
what had happened.
I could feel the tears that were stinging my eyes wanting to fall. My old
reputation of being president of student counsel or head of the cheer leading
squad or editor of the yearbook didn’t matter any longer people only knew me
now as Brandy; the girl whose boyfriend cheated on her with not only her best
friend but half the school. On top of cheating, he also denied everything that
ever happened between us the past two years. It was as though my whole
time in high school had pretty much been a lie.
I couldn’t take it any longer, I ran towards the back of the school, my vision
blurred from the tears that were threatening to fall. I didn’t want anyone to
see me in such a weak state. I quickly darted through the parking lot, looking
for my car.
As my car came into view I wiped my eyes and looked into my backpack for
my keys. I looked up and froze. I saw a pitch black crow perched on the roof
of my car, staring blanking at me; his dark eyes burning into mine. Looking
around I suddenly noticed how dark the sky had become. He let out a
screeching caw and then another one flew down and rested beside the other,
this one just as dark and he too just stared.

Out of nowhere a huge flock of crows seemed to swarm my car. I turned around,
terrified, wanting to run back inside. I was stopped by this figure made up of crows.
It appeared to be a man only it had no actual flesh only a body of birds. Desperate I
looked around the parking lot but as predicted no one was there.
Of course no one is there, I thought to myself, no one else is an emotional psycho
path like you so they are still in school. I felt sick, my heart rate speeding up. The
dark figure was getting closer and closer. I ran the short distance to my car and
cried out as a crow swooped down steering me away from the direction of my car.
Both the wild birds and the bird figure were so close, I couldn’t help but cry. I closed
my eyes hoping that when I opened them this nightmare would be over. Not only
were they still there when I opened them but the figure was standing right in front
of me. I looked into eyes of the soulless creature only seeing evil and darkness
within them. I screamed a blood curdling scream just as he reached out and
grabbed my neck throwing me against my car. Before I knew what was happening
birds were everywhere, pecking at my skin. I felt their claws and beaks rip through
my flesh some deep enough to the bone. I thrashed and kicked hopelessly trying to
get free. One pecked out my eye sending pain throughout my body. I was dizzy and
was starting to fade in and out. I gave one last effort but it was drowned out by the
massive attack of ravage crows cawing and pecking. Then everything went black.
***********

There was a sharp pain in my head that went down through my spine. I was dizzy
and light headed. I slowly tried to pry open my eyes to find out where I was. The
ground was cold and I was resting against something hard. I looked around and
noticed a football field and tennis courts. I'm at school? I asked myself. But how? It
was dark out.
I realized I had fallen asleep sitting on the ground, leaning on my car. I groaned as I
sat up, my headache getting worse. I slipped my phone out from my pocket and
read the time; it was barely 9 o'clock at night.
Then it hit me.
I dropped to the floor on my knees as I remembered what had happened earlier
that afternoon. I felt ill as I remembered the crows and the figure and the
eyes...Then I remembered the pain. I quickly touched over my body and face.
Nothing hurt or was sore from where the creatures attacked.
I quickly pushed down the bile that was rising up my throat as I brought my hand
up to my face. I took a deep breath and felt where my left eye should be. I gasped,
it was still there. Was it just a dream? Did it really happen? I said inside my mind
"Oh god help me!" I cried, this time out loud. Just then my phone beeped signaling
that it died. I felt my pockets for my keys and didn’t feel them, I didn’t see them on
the ground either, they must have gotten lost in the chaos.
"Great, that's exactly what I need. Thanks a lot", I muttered.

Standing back up, I limped over to the doors of my school. I pulled on one, testing if
it was unlocked, sure enough it was locked. I tried the next, and the next all three
locked. I found a door off to the side by the athletics and gave it a try.
I sighed with relief as it opened and I walked through the foyer.
The lights were on, but only in the main hallways.
I crept down the hall, my eyes darting everywhere.
"It's all in your head Brandy. Just find somebody or a phone and get out. You got
this." I said trying to calm my nerves, not believing a single word. I was so scared.
I reached the end of the athletic hall and looked left and right; I had no idea where
to go. There were no cars in the lot where I came from so I assumed there was no
one here. I would have to find a pay phone of some sort. I decided on left sense it
would eventually lead me around to the front. I’m sure there would be phones there.
After about five steps, I heard a noise from behind me.
I twirled my body around but didn’t see anything.
"Just keep going. Find a phone, call, and then leave. You can do it." I whispered to
myself. I shook my head and continued down the hall.
I looked into the glass case that held the trophies. I skimmed them over looking at
all of them. Something dark moved in the reflection of the case. I gasped and
turned again only to see nothing.

My hands began to shake. I mean surely I was only imaging it right? I was the only
one here.
A chill ripped through my body and I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
I walked at a faster past trying to find something that could help me get out of here.
I made it to the front of the school where the office is located. All the doors were
locked. I looked out the front windows to the front parking lot and the main street in
front of my school.
Not a single car went by. It looked like a ghost town.
I heard loud, heavy footsteps coming from around the corner. My breathing
stopped. I backed up slowing trying to keep as much distance between me and
whatever was coming.
As soon as I reached the entrance to another hall I saw the most terrifying thing I
had ever seen before. It was a man all mangled up. His eyes were red, and his face
torn up as if a lion mauled him with its massive claws. His body was huge, not in a
muscular way but a tall and lanky way. His hands and fingers were mangled like
someone took a rusty chainsaw to them.
That's all I could see because as soon as I saw him I screamed and turned running
straight down the hall as fast as I could.
Everything was flying by me in a blur. My legs felt like rubber and my lungs burned
as I zigzagged my way through the halls trying to lose him. I finally slowed to a jog
and looked over my shoulder quickly. I didn’t see anything so I stopped and began
to walk.

There was a cramp tightening up in the side of my stomach and my breathing was
loud.
I thought my heart was going to beat through my chest.
Classroom after classroom none of them were open. I made it up stairs to the
English hallway and started trying those doors. I tried my English door and felt relief
wash over me as it opened. I quickly ran through the door and closed it behind me.
I started moving desk in front of the door, as many as I could. Once I thought it
was enough I ran behind the teacher’s desk and hid the best I could.
I held my breath, listening for any type of noise, anything to warn me that he was
coming. My body was trembling so I started humming to myself trying to calm
down. Tears were already falling silently down my face.
"Please god, please god, oh god please" I whispered over and over. I tried rocking
myself, anything to get me to calm down.
Then I heard a noise. It came from the direction of the door. It sounded like nails on
a chalkboard. I cringed and cried harder.
"God help me plleeeeeeeeeeease."I whispered fiercely.
The noise stopped and I felt hope. Suddenly the door knob shook violently.
I felt a scream wanting to rip through from my chest. Just like the scratching it
stopped.
I waited five minutes and nothing happened. I began to move, crawling along the
wall towards the door. I just wanted to look through the small window and check
and see if he was gone.

Just as I made if half way along the wall there was a voice behind me. Sending chills
throughout my body. I turned around and saw the man, all beaten up and pale.
"Well, well. Where do you think you’re going?" the evil creature asked.
I felt extremely ill and light headed. This can’t be happening why me.
"I don’t like playing games you know. And you, young lady, made me run around
the whole school to find you." He said clicking its tongue.
"Please don’t hurt me, please!" I pleaded.
"What’s the fun in that?!"He said with a laugh, shaking his head.
"Please I’ll give you anything you want! Please I promise! Don’t hurt me I’ll do
anything.”
He started walking towards me with a wicked smile on his face. I backed up and
whimpered when I reached the wall.
"You’re funny. I don’t want anything from you" he said, "Well nothing your willing to
give me."
I started sobbing saying please over and over again no louder than a whisper.
He was still moving in on me.
He stopped a couple feet away and whistled. Out of nowhere a black crow flew down
and rested on his shoulder. "You remember Plague don’t you?" he asked referring to
the crow.
I couldn’t speak so I just nodded my head, remembering the bird I saw on my car.
