Dedicated to mother nature for all its wonders. Without her, this journey wouldn't be possible.

Hello my name is Rhyolite and I'm and igneous rock. I usually live outiside volcanoes.

I'm created after a volcanic eruption where lava slowly sips out of the dome of a volcanoe. The dome is the round top of the volcano.
I'm born outside the earth which means I'm an extrusive rock. Once the lava hits the ground and cools quickly, I become an igneous Rhyolite. I'm a pretty chill rock alright.
Because I cool so fast the surface of my body feels fine. This means that its not as bumpy as other rocks. Also the fast cooling makes really, really, small crystals that you can't see with the naked eye.

When it rains, I get really cold and I begin to shiver. Suddenly parts of me were breaking off and taken to other places. This is called weathering and erosion.

My little pieces were transported or carried by rain, and picked up by strong winds. Then, they were deposited and dropped in a pond.

All of a sudden, the water got stronger and I was moving with the current. I was in a fast moving river. When I reached the waterfall, it was scary and unconforatble.

Later, the water calmed down and I felt safe again. What a relief! Although, parts of me started to sink at the bottom of the ocean. This is called sedimentation. However, I had to keep moving, the journey was not over.

Finally, I was deposited on a river bank, along with other sediments.

I found myself resting under the sun for a while. It was a nice sunny day, perfect day to tan and relax after a days journey. I saw other rocks come and rest next to me. They too came from far, far away, and from many different places.

Each day, more and more rocks were deposited by the riverbank, and would pile up on top of me. I felt this huge pressure as others rocks pushed against me. It made me very angry. As time passed by, I saw my body growing and maturing into something else.

Over time, with the addition of pressure, dissolved minerals that sipped through the cracks glued my parts together. This is called cementation.
I was slowly compacted or pulled together, and my skin became harder. A new me was beginning to form.

After many years of pressure and cementation, I became a sedimentary rock. This process is called lithification. I became part of an even bigger group of sediments, together we became the riverbank.
