Song : Your flag decal wont get you into heaven anymore.
By: John Prine, 1971
Your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
In this song John Prine is saying how the Vietnam war so horrible that heaven is filled up because so many people died in the war, and even though we think its for the right cause with our 'American flag decal' killin' is still killin'.
Analysis
¨We were taking the black young men who had been crippled by our society ad sending them eight thousand miles away to guarantee liberties in Southeast Asia which they had not found in the southwest Georgia and East Harlem. So we have been repeatedly faced with the cruel irony of watching Negro and white boys on TV screens as they kill and die together for a nation that has been unable to seat them together in the same school...¨
Martin Luther King Jr.
April 4, 1967
Mr. King is saying how ironic it is that a country that
won´t even let black and white kids go to the same school is allowing the government and military to send them to Asia to fight in the same war and die together. He is also saying that it is ironic that black soldiers are being sent to fight for another countries liberties, when they don´t even have liberties themselves.

American eyes, long accustomed to having their news sanitized by the major media, the notion that these and similarly gruesome pictures routinely ran in a popular weekly magazine five decades ago will likely come as something of a shock.

Analysis
With the media getting for televised, and the advancement of colored photos. The Vietnam war was more graphic to the civilians at war back home and gave them new perspective about whats right and whats wrong.
