Being the largest band of the British invasion, The Beatles were one of the few acts to ever be the best and most popular at their art. Even decades after their breakup, they are still unparalleled in their musical achievements.

Through their two years of music, the first power trio directed rock and blues into new places. Cream was the first band to explore the power trio style with amplified, free form playing. The showmanship of the trio made each of them superstars with a fusion of blues, pop, psychedelia and hard rock.

Blending blues, pop, classical, and eastern music together, they formed a unique poetic and psychedelic sound unlike any other. This foursome led by Jim Morrison created music that was difficult to match for anyone. The 60’s sensation stretched boundaries and pushed limits, with top of the chart albums.

Known as the cornerstone of Rock and Roll, Elvis popularized Rock and Roll all over the globe with consistent music throughout his career. Being the first to fuse blues and country together in rockabilly with influences from pop and gospel. Dozens of hits made The King the highest selling performer in history.

In the late 80’s, Fishbone was one of the most distinctive alternative rock bands. With roots in deep funk, energetic punk, and Jamaican music, they gained a large cult following in their heyday but were never able to reach a higher level.
rateful Dead

Rock’s longest and strangest trip. The ultimate cult band, Grateful Dead spread their ideas of peace and mind expansion across the globe for the better part of three decades. Their superstardom was on their own terms, with free form live shows and a wacky style.

Breaking down a barrier that had been up since the beginning of rock, the Wilson sisters and Heart found success while having two women at the dominant roles. First finding successes in the 70’s, Heart produced some of the best thrilling rock anthems during their time. While other women did have lead roles, Heart helped open up the music world to female-fronted rock acts.

ggy Pop

All across punk, artists have borrowed things from Pop making him the godfather of Punk. As a member of the late 60’s band, The Stooges, he created a raw, vulgar sound that was a sharp contrast to the smooth music of bands like The Doors at the time.

imi Hendrix

In his short four years of fame, Hendrix expanded the vocabulary of the Electronic Guitar more than anyone else. His natural showmanship and blues influenced style, he quickly cemented himself as one of the greatest guitarist of all time.
ISS

Their loud guitar and Hard Rock sound laid the base for Arena Rock that dominated the 80’s. However, they were mostly known for their on-stage performances that quickly became very popular. The flamboyant costumes and spectacular effects drew people, especially kids into their shows.
ed Zepplin

With hits all over the board, Led Zeppelin was the most successful band of the Hard Rock era. The group brought in a new era of album music, refusing to release songs off of albums. Threading in funk, country and synthesizers with blues, rock and roll and psychedelia gave them a cultivating sound that helped found Hard Rock.

Easily the most popular and influential Metal band of the 80’s and 90’s, Metallica is credited with bringing the genre back to the light. The band took on a new look from previous Metal bands during the pop-metal revolution where they used speed and volume to improve their intricate songs.

irvana

Nirvana popularized punk and indie rock by bringing them into the mainstream like none other. They pulled from Metal, Alternative, and pop becoming some of the most popular anti-rock stars. They became an unlikely success that ended with a tragedy but there is no denying that they are one of the most influential bands in rock.
zzy Osbourne

A showman with a talent for creating controversy, Ozzy became a star through Black Sabbath and as a solo artist. There are a few artists that have managed to become hated by the media but Ozzy may have topped them all. Despite his reputation there is no denying his effect on metal by making it heavier and darker.
ink Floyd

Creating the third best selling album of all time, Pink Floyd’s progressive and space rock are some of the most unique and best celebrated in the world. Their elastic, echoing sound evokes the thought of space to any who hear it. Touching upon many subjects, they appealed to almost all people.
